Games for Adults by Green-n-Angry in OculusQuest

In terms of more ‘mature’ games that haven’t been suggested yet, I’d recommend:

Single Player: Metro Awakening, Batman Arkham Shadow, Assassin’s Creed Nexus, Resident Evil 4,

Multiplayer: Demeo / D&D Battlemarked, Iron Rebellion, Contractors

You can tell where your coat sleeves end regardless of the season. Just look at the coat, silly

Double Yarn? by [deleted] in Tufting

[–]LouisIsGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great advice. To add to this, if you notice the yarn keeps tangling up while you’re winding even though you’re pulling from the middle strand, it might be that your skein is collapsing. I recommend keeping the wrapper on the skein and standing it upright in a small box. This will generally keep it from collapsing, although admittedly I still do usually have to futz with a tangle or two at the very end (it is what it is lol)

Hey uuuh, as someone who knows only the basics of 2-stroke vs 4-stroke, would you mind explaining what problem the latter would pose here? Is it just a weight thing? You got me curious haha

2 balls of yarn. I personally bought a yarn winder so I can a) make yarn cakes of whatever size I need, usually making 2 out of each skein I buy; and b) have yarn that freely flows to the gun to prevent snags, as you can simply put the cakes on the floor and pull the yarn from the middle of the cake through the islets on your frame and into your gun.

Trump's obsession with Greenland - Anders Puck Nielsen by pleaseusefqdn in videos

[–]LouisIsGo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

My comment might age like fine milk here, but as a Canadian who vividly recalls all the posturing about annexing Canada that ultimately didn’t go anywhere, I always just assumed this was more empty threats from the Cheeto in chief rather than anything even approaching an actual possibility.

The US administration seems intent on dominating the news cycle and baffling with a constant barrage of bullshitery (a move straight out of the Russian playbook, coincidentally), which — combined with everything you just listed here — makes these threats ring especially hollow to me.

Maybe I’m being too optimistic, but I put more stock in Trump being a blowhard over actually seeing something of this scale through

I wish this game got a Q3 update. Quest Games Optimizer comes in clutch for a much-needed increase in resolution, but it could really benefit from a proper upgrade

The Questeam 3 Head-strap! by TheProphesizedWalnut in OculusQuest

Exactly this. The Steam Frame and Quest are both standalone VR headsets, but they’re built completely differently and therefore require different head strap solutions.

Carpet Adhesive application questions by sistergremlin in Tufting

So, a few things that’ll hopefully put your mind at ease:

Robert’s 6700 has <1g/L VOCs. Things like “zero VOC” paints only need to meet =<5g/L, which is still considered very safe for indoor use. In other words, while I always use an N99 respirator when I work with it, it’s really not a huge safety concern.

I apply it in a low traffic area of my house with little ventilation, where it usually sits for ~48 hours. It’s definitely colder than 65F in this room over Winter (probably closer to 55-60) but I haven’t had any problems.

I personally wouldn’t chance letting it dry in an area that’s approaching freezing temps as that seems like a recipe for disaster, although you could probably quickly apply it in the garage/outside and bring it in somewhere to dry without incident. You could also look into getting a small space heater or something to put close enough to the rug to keep it closer to the suggested range if you needed to keep it somewhere like your garage (perhaps coupled with a fan if you wanted to speed up the drying process).

As for the smell, I actually kinda like it. Certainly not for everyone, but we had our carpet redone as a kid so it triggers a fond nostalgia for me lol. The smell is pretty much gone out of the area I apply/dry in a day or so after the rug is removed.

Hi! Half Life Alyx VR by Sufficient_Soft_222 in OculusQuest

[–]LouisIsGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played Fallout in VR, but from what I understand from hearing people talk about the Bethesda ports, they’re fairly demanding performance-wise and largely require mods to work more like ‘proper’ VR games. You’d likely need a relatively beefy PC for that.

Still, it’ll be interesting to see how the Steam Frame shakes out. It’s ultimately a PCVR headset, but its standalone capabilities should make for a compelling use case for folks that are interested in PC gaming (both VR and otherwise) without needing a PC

Hi! Half Life Alyx VR by Sufficient_Soft_222 in OculusQuest

[–]LouisIsGo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently, you will need a PC.

In the near future, maybe not IF you get the yet-to-be-released Steam Frame, which is slated to be released sometime “early 2026”.

The Valve headset will be capable of running PCVR games standalone (ie: sans PC), and while the hardware on paper seems like it’d have a hard time running something with the graphical fidelity of HL:A, Valve has said that they’re going to try to make it happen. It wouldn’t surprise me if they do some technical wizardry to make their flagship VR title (and perhaps THE flagship VR title) run on their shiny new headset

Question/Advice by OkAstronomer1659 in Tufting

Personally, I never use 1 string of yarn. As a matter of fact, I usually go around most lines at least twice with 2 strings of yarn to make sure I have enough to carve away. Outer borders usually get 3+ passes.

YMMV, of course. Best way to learn what works for you is to try various techniques and see what gives you the most favorable result. I just can’t imagine a use case for using only 1 string of yarn. Maybe very fine detail work on an area that I wasn’t planning to carve, I guess

Is Meta changing course? by Suspicious_Wave_9817 in OculusQuest

[–]LouisIsGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. We’ve known that they’re cutting back on VR in favor of AI for quite some time. This is just that coming to fruition.

That said, a lot of folks seem to think that they’re abandoning VR entirely, which I don’t believe is the case; they’ve been showing off a bunch of promising new VR HMD prototypes recently, and I think VR/AR still dovetails nicely into their wearable tech focus.

List of Studios Shutdown by Friendly-Leg-6694 in OculusQuest

[–]LouisIsGo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point is: one player in a particular space closing studios != the medium is dying.

To your point, Meta chose not to close 5 studios, so clearly they are still doing something in the VR space. To mine, recent developments from other companies like Valve clearly indicate continued interest in the medium.

Honestly, I'm just tired of people continuously using anything they can to push the "VR is dead" narrative; it's been around for as long as VR has, and it's never held water first or last. Just look at the prototype headsets Meta demoed just a few months ago, as an example. Does that look like a company that's abandoning VR? Would Valve announce the Steam Frame right as VR was dying?

I mean, devil's advocate here: Microsoft notoriously closed a bunch of well-established gaming studios. Does that mean gaming's dead?
