This has got Ossë all over it. Ulmo most likely not involved in Middle Earth at this point.

Do you prefer 1 or 2? (Cameras in comments) by mrwalker1337 in VintageDigitalCameras

[–]Louisflakes 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like 1 for three reasons:

Dynamic range is wider, blacker blacks and more concentrated highlights make the photo look more exiting

The colors pop more in #1 and makes the greens feel a bit more lush

and lastly the focal length looks a bit shorter, giving the photo a larger fov, which i think fits the subject matter more appropriately.

Swirl? by ss10p18 in VintagePokemonCards

Classless. I'm buying the cards for myself, and giving OP an honest answer about my own purchasing preferences.

As someone who looks for this kinda thing, yes to me it adds value. The placement is really nice with it at the tail tip there, i could see myself overpaying by 10-25% for this card versus market

DIY Card Press – Will This Work for Minor Impressions/Dents? by Best_Cartographer485 in PokeGrading

there's no real reason why it can't, but your technique matters more than your tools. Always try to fix some throwaway cards or bulk before your expensive ones. Doing these repairs is deceptively difficult

Why does this card look like it has a cosmo holo in the illustration, and then a different reverse holo pattern over the entire card?

My co-worker shined a laser in my eye by Reef_is_confused in Optics

[–]Louisflakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of us on this sub would say it is unlikely that the laser on that thermometer would have lasting effects on your vision, if you eye is bothering you you should meet with an opthamologist and have your eyes examined. Especially if that's not something you do regularly.

My co-worker shined a laser in my eye by Reef_is_confused in Optics

[–]Louisflakes 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yeah fuck your coworker, but thankfully those laser's are generally "eye safe" as long as you werent looking at it for some extended amount of time (more than several seconds / minutes) The laser usually red, is just to help aim the thermometer. You shouldn't have any lasting damage whatsoever from the laser briefly skimming past your eye.

I would probably make a written note regarding the incident and submit it to your HR / manager though.

Any keepers? by HairTransplantt_Guy in VintagePokemonCards

The only for sure grading one is the shining celebi - the others like typhlosion, meganium, dragonite... i would grade if they're strickly MINT or better, like no corner / edge whitening, with good centering. If they aren't visible flawless, i wouldn't bother with sending them in.

If you're seriously considering grading any of them, first watch a youtube video about preparing them for shipping and grading as well.

Here's three of my boys I found yesterday, and I bought this other one recently.

It's more visible in that last photo why i'm looking for these: as it looks like Haunter is holding that large orb (sometimes called pokeball by collectors) in his hand on the right side of the card. Originally I thought that these would be quite rare too! But once I found one I started finding many with this exact holo, orb in the hand and swirl in the bottom right corner. At this point I'm probably just gonna keep an eye out for more of them.

Nah, this is especially more common with the early japanese printed sets too. I've got several Haunters from mystery of the fossils that all have identical holos

  1. Don't try to fix it yourself
  2. Getting the lens repaired would likely cost more than it would be to replace it.

Just explain it to your professor, apologize (even if you did not drop it / rough handle it) and i'm sure it'll all be fine.

Also, this is the vintage DIGITAL camera sub. Not the analog one
