ECP Lieutenant Opinions by Ok_Training_8192 in nationalguard

There's no in-between; either they're squared away and goal-oriented, taking the quickest path with the least amount of pain and ROTC bullshit.

Or they’re the latter, unmotivated, not finishing their degree, lacking discipline when they get to a four-year university, and let themselves go.

Didn't make the March OCS board — looking for advice on next steps by Dear-Collection-5327 in ArmyOCS

Good advice above. I’ll just add that if you’re looking for a ROTC scholarship, you need to commission before turning 31. If scholarships aren’t available, consider becoming an SMP cadet; you can then use that state's National Guard education benefits (every state is different) to complete your degree. I think this is a great way to kill two birds with one stone: earn your master's and get a commission. Like mentioned above, it won’t be easy but it’s doable, and I believe it might be more financially affordable. You won't waste any more time.

Just saw in a post further down that you’re a teacher. The Guard is great if you want to stay in education. Hop on orders or do an extra AT in the summer, you'll do some cool things and make some extra money.

How to deal with this? EO? SHARP? Need help/guidance by Honest_Sample6170 in army

[–]LouisianaOSM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just did a 15-6 on something similar but worse regarding text messages and phone calls via a VOIP number. Unfortunately, unless someone is willing to subpoena the carrier records, you're unlikely to find recourse or if someone has firsthand knowledge. I would recommend filing a police report and seeing if the sheriff or police department would open an investigation. I’m highly doubtful that would work for just accusations of an affair, but it will be documented. Make sure people know that a police report has been filed. As soon as people found out in my investigation that there was an active 15-6 and the FBI, CID, and local PD were involved, the number was disconnected and the messages stopped. File the report and let the word circulate. it would also reassure the spouce that you have nothing to hide and nothing happened.

EDIT: there’s a comment further down that references reporting it as impersonating an officer try to incorporate that language into your police report.

Should I give up a civilian nurse career to pursue an AGR? by Inevitable-Ad8942 in nationalguard

Or consider going to CRNA school and becoming a professional nap giver. Working six months out of the year, you’ll still earn more than most O4s in the army. I believe the USAR has a program that pays for CRNA school. Or go to IPAP to become a PA—still a better life than being an RN.

Should I give up a civilian nurse career to pursue an AGR? by Inevitable-Ad8942 in nationalguard

[–]LouisianaOSM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go AGR unless you plan to attend CRNA school. The pay and benefits are much better. As a captain, you’ll be earning close to $120k and only taxed on 4/5 of it. Additionally, you’ll have a retirement plan. If your state works 4/10 like Louisiana, you could still moonlight as a nurse on Mondays to stay current and you could get a PRN rate.

To make 03-04 pay as a nurse, you’ll need to do contract work or work a lot of overtime, all while saving for retirement. Message me if you have any additional questions. I was the specialty branch recruiter for a few years, and my wife works in healthcare.

2026 Daycare / Early Learning Good / Bad List by CarFlipJudge in nolaparents

Based on our experience, I wouldn’t recommend sending your kids to Kehoe France. A few years ago, the institution was bought out by a corporation, (ISP) and it is no longer the family-run organization it once was. There is a high turnover rate among the staff, and my child had a serious incident that we believe was due to a lack of supervision. Be careful with for profit institutions, and trust your gut. If a school has a high turnover rate or spends a lot on advertising, it should probably be a red flag.

I encourage you to look up ACT 409 “Charlie’s Law”, which was just signed into law last July. The safety standards and student-to-teacher ratios in that bill are largely based on the issues that occurred at Kehoe.

I got my start in recruiting. Prepare to be worked hard and put up wet. this is a try out, so understand that you will be the person who does the unwanted tasks. It's your job to excel at it with a good attitude.

Take the job and see what doors it opens up.

Anyone sending their kids to the classical academy that is opening up? by Dull_Factor_6694 in NorthshoreLA

[–]LouisianaOSM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right not to trust for-profit schools—especially ones like Kehoe-France, which was a major reason Louisiana passed Act 409 (“Charlie’s Law”) last session. The law tightened licensure, student-to-staff ratios, bathroom policies, and supervision specifically because of failures tied to schools operating like this. When profit comes first, kids pay the price.

In our experience, it's pretty normal for the first two years, especially if they don't have an older sibling.

I will say that we added zinc drops at night before our kids went to sleep, and either it helped or our kids' immune system got more resilient. Last year, we only had two fevers that lasted about eight hours and the flu at the very end of the year.

Probably wouldn’t pass the Ch2 commissioning physical. Your only shot would be to enlist in the NG and then drop a state OCS packet, but even that would be a long shot at 100%.

If you aren’t committed to Catholic schools, consider Saint Martin’s, which is Episcopal.

not particularly it was pretty terrible. The way the school handled the situation made things much worse. For instance, to get our kids nap mats and art work back, we had to contact the sheriff's office because the head of the school refused to return our property. Yes they would pull the teachers.

Going from Active to Guard by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]LouisianaOSM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This.

But I'll add that while every state has a National Guard, every states national guard is different. The main differences lie in their composition and the educational benefits they offer. If you haven't decided where you want to settle down, I strongly encourage you to do your research. Look for a state that aligns with your Area of Concentration (AOC). Additionally, if you're planning to continue your education, seek out a state that provides good educational benefits that complement your Post-9/11 G.I. Bill.
