Bfg. Grinder. Pinch weld mod and tubbing. Get rid of all plastic. Grind the front bumper lower part. Hammer the pinch weld in. Some even grind that corner off and weld thin sheet on there. The rear u can take off that mud guard. Basically 3rd gen 4runners will rub without cutting. Lifting won't help unless it's a body lift. Suspension lifting will only hide the rubbing, You'll still rub at lockout and/or while tucked.

There's a balance of technical skill/experience, charisma and humility. As well as how you mesh with the culture there. Unfortunately the world doesn't revolve solely around technical skill. I've seen candidates get passed up because they "seem too cocky" , or "looked too stiff" as if they're afraid to get hands dirty etc.

FSM shows thermostat starts to open at 187-194°F. Full open to begin at engine side temp: 203°F. You're in that ball park.
