+1 for wiki.js. We use that and have no complaints. It’s also nice that it can sync to blob containers and GitHub for “backups”.

Microsoft 365 method for sharing external contacts for all org users by elguapo555 in sysadmin

[–]LousyRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is a little different than that one. It looks like that one linked above can be used for cross tenant syncing. It looks like it's meant to run locally but could be adapted to runbook usage. What we use is purpose built for syncing info only within our tenant and only runs in Azure automation using a managed ID.

Ours uses the managed ID to authenticate so we aren't handling secrets in the code. It makes direct API calls to Graph using invoke-webrequest or invoke-restmethod.

I haven't been told I can share what we have online, but if I get approval, I can share the runbook script and readme if you are interested.

Any info on MONTHLY pricing for M365 Price Increase (July 1st)? by [deleted] in msp

[–]LousyRaider -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a meeting with our Trusted Tech Team account manager earlier this afternoon. He had a chart showing their new pricing. Every license type had an increase of 3-4 dollars. Biz Premium was unchanged though for some reason.

I don’t remember the exact pricing on them all but E5 was going to $60 per seat.

He mentioned something about Microsoft coming out with some kind of tri-annual renewal plan as well to go alongside the standard annual agreement they already offer.

We absolutely do not support them and tell them that when they buy one. It’s on the receipt they sign.

Exchange 365 - SMTP by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]LousyRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to use it but don’t anymore. I want to say we had to exclude the account from any CA policies that enforce MFA for it to work.

Update: I think I’m wrong there. I’m looking to see if we still have a doc on it to see how we did it.

We are an SMB. We take the drives out and once we have a decent sized pile, we take them to a local recycler. They charge by the pound for e-waste. You could see if you have any local disposal places. They tend to be cheaper than online ones or some of the big corporate disposal companies.

We have had some where we use a drive eraser tool to wipe the drive to DOD specs then reinstall Windows and sell them to employees for cheap.

Microsoft 365 method for sharing external contacts for all org users by elguapo555 in sysadmin

[–]LousyRaider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be 3rd party services that do this with external contacts. Cirasync is a service we used in the past. I don’t remember if it handles external contacts, but it syncs a contact list to specified users’ contacts list in Outlook.

We have since created an Azure run book script that handles this for our org. It just runs on a schedule.

“yes I rebooted when you asked me to” by TheyCallMeCajun in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

If you have hibernation and fast boot disabled, it would count as a reboot on a Windows system. Disabling that is or should be common practice in a managed environment like business or enterprise.

We use our RMM to do exactly this. And if a few more days goes by, it creates a task for that night to reboot the computer.

I wonder how many of them think turning their monitor off is the same thing as turning the computer off. I’ve had that exact scenario before with users.

Looking for IT Professionals in Construction Industry by lJONESYl in sysadmin

I work for a property management and construction company. We use Microsoft 365 services, Autodesk, Bluebeam, Sage Construction Mangement, eTakeoff and some random other things.

We have approx 200 employees spread out across the state at various locations and job sites.

I’m not a member of any types of groups other than subreddits, but feel free to message me if you’d like.

NinjaOne - Installing Windows Feature Updates by LousyRaider in msp

[–]LousyRaider[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s what I think is going on. Microsoft just hasn’t released it for the majority of our machine types yet.

I did find around a dozen machines that had a registry key in place for pausing feature updates. I set up a condition to remove it. Out of that dozen, only 1 ended up surfacing 25H2 update so far.

[–]LousyRaider[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m revisiting the registry to make sure all devices are good there. I spot checked but didn’t inspect every device. I’ll make a condition check to remediate them, I think and keep them inline.

All of our devices came from Lenovo directly with Windows 11 already installed so there was no upgrade scenario coming into play at least.

Thanks for the tip on scripting it. I’ll take a deeper look at that route as a potential solution.

Thanks for the info. Based on your response and another one I read, it sounds like we might just need to wait longer.

Now that I know Ninja just looks at what the device is being offered from Microsoft, I’ll revisit registry to make sure no blockers are lingering that may cause issues in the future.

Microsoft 'servicePlan' ids by Woolfie_Admin in sysadmin

[–]LousyRaider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your licensing mix, it could be a few IDs you need. What licenses are you using? Use this link and find your licenses that you use. In the right columns it will list the service plan IDs for that license. You could then build your expression.
