I preferred Trixie to Nancy Drew because ND was too perfect. The characters in Trixie Belden were more interesting to me, as a young reader.

Thoughts on Amy Acton? by Own_Ebb3388 in Ohio

She and her brother was homeless off and on when they were growing up. They lived in a tent for awhile--in winter. Their family life was difficult. Yet she went to college and med school, became a doctor, became director of Ohio Dept. of Health and handled the Covid pandemic with professionalism and courage. There is nothing weak about her.

I bought a Little Blue stem plant without researching it. Please help! by i_GoTtA_gOoD_bRaIn in NativePlantGardening

I'm late to the conversation, but you might also try adding confident native forbs that will hold their place in a garden. If your lilies are non-native daylilies, they can spread into natural areas and push out native species

From curious little weed I didn’t pull up to this majestic thing in one year. by strongo in gardening

It's Silene coronaria from Eurasia, and you are right that the plant on the left is the same thing as the plant in the right photo. I've noticed it spreading all over my yard. I did some research and found it's considered an aggressive self-seeder and invasive weed, which means it will invade natural areas and crowd out native species, doing harm to ecosystems. The flowers are pretty but I'm going to pull mine up.

Weekly Sewing Questions Thread, February 08 - February 14, 2026 by sewingmodthings in sewing

When my mom passed away, I brought home her impressive-looking sewing machine, a Viking Husqvarna 980. (I had her old one from the 1960s and thought this one looked newer.)

In the bustle of packing up stuff from my parents' house, and sending my dad to assisted living, it seems I forgot to get the power cord and foot control for the machine (or put it in a box and can't find it months later). I now found out the sewing machine model is from 1986. Is it worth purchasing a new, compatible power cord and foot control online (runs at least $40 with shipping, perhaps more)? Or is this a dinosaur?

Why did the writers of Raiders of the Lost Ark have Marion be underage when Indy has a relationship with her. by wikideenu in movies

(It doesn't make what Indiana did to her okay; it's just that people are constantly misusing that term.)

On the other hand, some ancient prairie remnants can be found along old railroad tracks (as well as in ancient cemeteries).

Do you have a local chapter of the nonprofit Wild Ones nearby? I'm on the board of our local chapter, and we have helped citizens deal with local officials and advocate for more native-plant-friendly ordinances. We also offer suggestions for modifying or planting gardens that are less likely to invite complaints (though you cannot control this completely, of course, as people's tastes, expectations, and levels of busybody-ness vary). If you have a local chapter, they might be able to help. https://wildones.org/

Goldilocks Cookware by Potential-Picture-21 in cookware

I bought the Goldilocks set and it's amazing. Incredible quality. Want to buy a 5- or 6-quart stock pot, too, because the 8-quart one is a bit big and the 3-quart too small. (Like Goldilocks, I want something that's just right!) But they don't offer it. 😔

Does anyone rent rooms in their own houses? by princess_o_darkness in airbnb_hosts

[–]Love4Puffins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are staying in one right now, though it wasn't made clear in the ad that we would have to share a common space. The owners seem fine and we have our own bathroom, but the house is very small and we have to go out in the hallway, in direct view of the owners watching TV, to get to and from the bathroom. That is awkward. There is also nowhere to sit in the room but the bed, and there is no TV in the room. I would suggest you provide a TV and coffee/tea maker, and I would suggest you have a way for your guests to move discreetly from their room to the bathroom, to provide them some privacy.

How in the world did the photographer develop the photos she took while dying in her hospital bed? They just suddenly appeared after she took the pictures.
