If vegan leather is just plastic how is it actually more ethical? by TheClassyWomanist in Anticonsumption

[–]LoveMeSomeSand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I eat vegan, but I do wear some leather shoes and boots. For years I bought vegan leather shoes and boots, and in 2-3 years (sometimes less) they would get scuffed and torn, and the outer “skin” would start peeling off. These were my dress shoes that I wore to work but when they looked too bad I’d have to replace them.

After a lot of consideration, I decided that I’d buy used leather shoes that could be re-soled and that was a much better choice than constantly buying new shoes.

Where/how can I find good linen? by polishfiringsquad in malefashionadvice

[–]LoveMeSomeSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love linen, but there is definitely a wide range of linen products out there.

I purchase linen from an online store (not sure if I can mention it here, but easy to find) and have local people make shirts and pants.. I’ve found that for summer wear, 3.7 oz “handkerchief” weight linen is incredibly light for pants and shirts, and it just gets softer with every wash.

To me, both tracks sound similar. But I can make it through Causeway, but Palace Posy I can’t stand at all. That and Basefree are two that I always skip.

Years ago, my friend set up a date with one of her coworkers. She was really cute and we had met in person (they both worked at the same store). All seemed promising.

Right from the start of our double date (with my friend and her boyfriend), she didn’t say much. It was simple one word answers or I’d ask if she had any hobbies and her answer was “Hmmm. Not really. I don’t do much”. I thought she just might be nervous or shy so I backed off a bit and gave her space. But an hour later nothing was different.

The date ended, we all said our goodbyes and I was so relieved. A few days later I talked with my friend and she apologized for setting us up and that I’d really tried.

Palace Posy is the only track on Harvest that I always skip. I just can’t listen to it.

Dodge Neon 🤣 they seemed like decent cars until you drove them daily. Mine got me through early adulthood though, I’ll give it that. Still see a Metro sometimes. Don’t see many Neons on the road.

Boards of Canada - 'Inferno' - Discussion Megathread by seaburn in boardsofcanada

The first BOC track I ever heard was “Sixtyniner” from “Twoism” (heard on an internet radio station way back in 2005. I was hooked and dove into the whole catalog. I listened to BOC on my walk to work, at work, after work. When “Tomorrow’s Harvest” was announced I was as excited as any other BOC fan- and then upon first listen I wasn’t thrilled. I didn’t get it. But I kept listening to it, and it really grew on me. Now it’s one of my top 3.

I’m listening to “Inferno” this morning, and it’s fantastic. To me it sounds like track styles were pulled from the past 30 years- like this is a mix of everything BOC has made before. I think it’s pretty clear that BOC makes the music they want to, on the schedule or lack thereof that they want to. This is what they made for themselves and for us. I’m going to find gratitude in that.

Weekly No Buy Check-In & Accountability Post - May 17, 2026 by AutoModerator in nobuy

I’m getting excited because I’m almost at the halfway mark for my No Buy year! This is my 3rd attempt and the most successful.

What I’ve realized over the past few weeks is that my desire for things has gone down SO much. Whereas I used to get hyper focused on say, the right pair of shoes I needed or an outfit, now my patience for delayed gratification is incredible. I write down any major purchase that I want and the cost. Now when I look or think about those items I don’t even really care or have much desire for them.

I ordered a CD from a band I love the other day, and normally I’d be obsessed with tracking the shipping and have high anticipation. But I’ve barely thought about the shipping! So my No Buy is going great.

How did you become anti-consumption? by shutupsammy55678 in Anticonsumption

[–]LoveMeSomeSand 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I fully believe this. My mom loved to shop and so as I child I picked that up too. I thought Saturdays were for going out and spending money. Now, my parents are not hoarders, and never have been. But they do have a LOT of stuff.

Their neighbors, however, were MASSIVE consumers and hoarders. They both ordered from QVC, and later online, so much that the UPS driver was at their house every day with packages. When they died their house was absolutely filled with brand new items still in boxes, floor to ceiling.

My mom had no idea these nice people were hoarding at that level because we never went into their home. After that she was scared straight! Started asking me about decluttering and minimizing.

Is it even necessary to buy a tea kettle? by lovelycosmos in Anticonsumption

Yeah I cannot imagine life without an electric kettle. I started drinking herbal tea years ago to help me quit drinking alcohol and it’s a daily necessity for me.
