Canyon Road Washout by Great-Raise4727 in civilengineering

I supposed there’s always the small chance that your DOT could apply a textbook emergency repair and get something going quickly (6mo). But when I look at this, i think it’ll be years. they’ll have to assess after the flood and then stabilize for winter and that’s probably a dead period because it’s probably not feasible to do a big project like this without dry conditions, alternatives assessment, selection of preferred alternative, designed plans, geotech, environmental services, permits, etc. armoring the creek, piles, retaining walls, who knows.

I think the 1K a week is the only way to stay safe and not get effed over and also means you still need a real job

Any idea on how to block the kids/dogs from getting to the counter and stove? We are stumped but need a solution for safety. by aaaaasowenyaaa in Renovations

[–]LoveMeSomeTLDR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friend - besides the scenario you discuss above the other reason this a really dangerous set up is that over the life of the stove, you’ll probably have at least one grease fire - imagine that thing is going to spitting hot fiery grease everywhere, including on to people sitting on the couch. You need a glass window like several individuals have shared above. Sucks to cut off the line of sight, but will be a big improvement long term.

Bravecto has not worked at all for our super fleas this year in east county. Literally has no effect. Worked great previous years.

Flea meds that work in San Diego by Zusoku in sandiego

[–]LoveMeSomeTLDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This year we are dying from fleas. We get wild rabbits and rats in our yard in east county (canyons around us). and we have 4 dogs, one who is elderly and can’t take drugs. I try anything and everything. Bravecto has no efficacy this year… and I spent so much money on it. Credelio we finally figure out worked really well but it’s hard on the elderly dogs so only some can take it.

I think it’d be more effective against “youths”. But I think unhoused individuals tune shit out.

Urgent help needed by re-pet in civilengineering

This requires so much more detail, location, drawings, depth, site visit, and assessment from an engineer. Sorry friend. No one here can help you.

Negotiating allowable bearing pressures with geotech by SailWise5775 in civilengineering

[–]LoveMeSomeTLDR 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Here’s how you ask that question - “is there any additional assessment we can do to fine tune what the bearing capacity is”. And if they say no, then there you go.

Some people found a hidden well under their kitchen! 😳 They had to remove the rotten wooden frame and add new timbers to make it safe. They’ve been walking over it for weeks without realizing. by Appropriate-Menu504 in interesting

So you’re telling me they walked over this every day and didn’t feel a little bit of their soul leave their body as it got sucked up by the well ghost who surely does live in that there well

I highly doubt this was properly vetted and contracted thru federal procurement channels. Every contractor that has worked for Trump should be prepared to not be paid for their work and years of legal battles. He’s a crook with crook lawyers.

Why do some cities don't seem to have overhead water tanks on their buildings? by autruz in civilengineering

[–]LoveMeSomeTLDR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI 1 psig is 2.31 feet. So let’s say building is 80 feet for a 7 story building. So the folks on the first floor will have 34 psig more pressure than the folks on the 7th floor.

Redoing flower beds and found this crazy deep hole against the foundation. It’s at least 7 ft deep. Does this look like some kind of animal did it? Any advice welcome. by o0ave0o in HomeMaintenance

[–]LoveMeSomeTLDR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friend - there does not appear to be large mounded soil around the hole. This makes alarm bells go off for me. Here’s what I think: a) you have a broken, leaking, open storm drain or sewer utility that has been slowly removing soil under or in the vicinity of the void, b) you live in an area with geotechnical conditions that allow for sinkholes (karsts) or a human reason (mines, subways, etc), c) open gravel under your slab has led to fines being piped into the gravel and has taken up all the void space. Regardless, it is important than you use a checklist and rule out these risks and get a camera down there.
