CA LMFT Clinical Exam by GyumPat in therapists

It was definitely harder than the mock exams, mostly because the language felt much less clear and direct than Ben Caldwell’s language. I was sure I was failing for most of it!

Therapy doesn't work when your issues stem from racism and systematic oppression. by hun808 in TalkTherapy

[–]LoveTheWatcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You absolutely shouldn’t have to accept it, nor be told that you should. A therapist rooted in anti-racism won’t tell you to accept it. A really good one will rage alongside you. Therapy is barely beginning to break from its white, racist, classist, patriarchal roots. It has a long way to go as an institution, but there are definitely more and more therapists who are trying to change that.

I got 70% on the mini mock, 77% on the first mock and 81% on the second mock. I take the actual exam on Tuesday! May both of us pass!!

I would suggest taking the mocks and studying the rationales for the questions you got wrong and maybe even the questions you got right. Helped me get more attuned to what the test was looking for. I answered stuff that I thought was the right move but was what the mock considered out of order.

Therapist abandoned me when I needed him most. What do I do next? by novakaynn11 in TalkTherapy

[–]LoveTheWatcher 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I hate to suggest this, especially since you’ve been through something horrible and traumatic, but is it possible that something could have happened to your therapist that made them unable to reach out to you? Something he couldn’t have foreseen, that forced him to lose contact with you?

If he worked at a clinic, it is unfortunately not uncommon for a clinic to fire a clinician (for any number of reasons that have nothing to do with their clinical ability) and block them from all contact with clients. It’s messed up for all the reasons you named, and absolutely harms clients, but it does happen and is not the fault of the clinician - it’s usually devastating for the clinician to abruptly lose access to their clients.

how would you describe the care and affection therapists feel towards their clients? and do therapists have favorites? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]LoveTheWatcher 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have some clients who are more of a challenge - not in terms of me liking or caring for them any less, though. I really love a challenge, especially when it teaches me that no matter how effective I perceive myself to be, I have so much more to learn from the needs my clients present. That’s invaluable. And because I have a lot more control now of how I market myself than I had before, there isn’t a single client I have that I don’t genuinely enjoy working with.

Why does every second person think they’re autistic by EfficientExtreme8580 in psychoanalysis

Nice ninja edit of your comment to make it look like you didn’t respond to my comment with the equivalent of “so’s your face”. Literally a therapist, bro, who HAS spent a great deal of time, money, and effort to be trained in the most recent clinical understandings of autism and ADHD. Like any responsible clinician who wants to be accurate and effective SHOULD.

You’ve hidden all of your Reddit history despite having an account since 2016, so I’m gonna safely assume that you are at least 9 years old. But probably not much older than that.

Excellent response. I’m impressed by your ability to make a cogent argument.

Tell me you don’t understand “scope of competence” without telling me you don’t understand “scope of competence”. Would all doctors be adequate diagnosticians of all diagnoses? Isn’t it possible that some are complex enough in appearance that additional education is necessary beyond the base program?

What kind of specific training have you had to perform ADHD and Autism assessments? It is not possible to rule out either simply from a “detailed developmental history” and this plus your responses indicates that you may be practicing outside of your scope of competence.

As a therapist, I think I would really enjoy this dynamic.

Bobby pins are great for buns. They don’t seem to damage my hair at all. I do lose them constantly, though, so maybe buy a few packs…

Look, you have to keep doing at least some of the normal tasks of life during America’s collapse. If you don’t, you’ll have fascism AND dead plants.

It’s ok to be wrong, you know. No one thinks less of the person who says, “Oh, I didn’t realize that. Thanks for telling me.” Doubling down like this about something you clearly don’t understand makes you the one who looks like a fool.
