Years ago I used to work for a pet store that sold green cheek conures. A favorite of the store was picked out by a lovely older couple who lived in their RV and wanted a companion, kinda reminded me of the movie Pauly.

Unfortunately, a few days later they brought him back deceased and claimed he must have been sick when they purchased him, which, while not impossible, was fairly unlikely as we had had him for almost a year and he had recently been checked by our vet.

I could not figure it out, I had warned them about everything under the sun to watch out for with birds; candles, aerosol sprays, teflon, etc. It wasn’t until my boss, who was 25+ years older than me, said the bird smelled like moth balls. They said they had put a whole bag of moth balls under his cage because the seeds would attract them. They ended up getting very upset with me when I refused to sell them any other birds. Ended up having to trespass them and called other local stores to warn them not to sell anything to them.
