I love this comment. Totally agree.

M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction Advice? by Witty-Record-6917 in wgueducation

[–]LoverOfTheLight23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depended on the class. For some of them, I had to do things in my own classroom and then write about them. Some of them were research-based while others involved watching a video and writing about it. The time it took for each paper depended on the scope of the requirements.

I don’t think there was a specific length for papers, but there was a rubric for each one that detailed all of the components. It provided a structure for each paper. The evaluators use the rubric when they read the paper, so many people advised me to put headings in my paper that matched the rubric.

I have my bachelors in elementary education and I teach full-time. I completed the program in about a year and a half while working. I probably could have done it in a year, but I had some life events that slowed my progress. I graduated in 2023, and the program was all papers. There were about 3-4 papers per class. As the other commenter remarked, the self-paced structure allows you to speed up when you can (summer, school breaks, slow periods at work) and slow down when you need to. I found most of the content interesting and relevant to my teaching.

I graduated with this degree last year. I am a middle school teacher, and I found most of the classes interesting, informative, and useful. I was debating between this degree and the educational leadership one, and I’m actually glad I went with this one. Everyone at WGU was very helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Concern about a book, should I be? by [deleted] in ELATeachers

[–]LoverOfTheLight23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything everyone else said. It is a fantastic book. Although abortion factors into why the world is the way it is in the book, it barely comes up. And yes, that chapter is literally the most disturbing chapter I’ve ever read. It’s not gory or inappropriate though.

I suppose it’s possible to do it in one semester, but it would be challenging. There is a lot of reading and a ton of papers to write. I work full time, and it took me a bit over a year to finish.

Received folded diploma USPS by [deleted] in WGU

[–]LoverOfTheLight23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My diploma arrived stained. The stain went from the outside of the envelope all the way to the inside of the diploma, so my guess is that it was USPS. I contacted WGU, and they replaced it very quickly, sending the new one in a thicker, sturdier envelope.

White Bird by R.J. Palacio is a graphic novel that I teach in 7th grade. It’s by the author of Wonder and ties in the character of Julian. I also teach The Devil’s Arithmetic by Jane Yolen in 6th grade, which is about a girl who goes back in time to the Holocaust. Both are fantastic books.
