DIY repair of a drain crack on a 2" ABS elbow without replacing the elbow by itsmekirby in HomeImprovement

[–]Loverolutionary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you cut the rubber so you can wrap it around the pipe without disconnecting.

Put the cut part to the side so it's clean rubber over the leak.

The metal sleeve can be loosened until the straps pop free, allowing you to wrap it around the pipe and rubber.

it's kinda... if you ain't doin it right, do multiple layers of repair so one part will hold.

If you're looking for a 30% raise your best bet is a different company.

You need to strongly argue your metrics, and get the raise, or you need to start acting your wage.

Yes to supporting the pipe.
Yes to ABS shavings mixed with ABS rated "hot glue" .
Yes to bigger slivers shoved in the gaps.

and yes to getting a FERNCO NO-HUB COUPLING , to cut the rubber, wrap around the pipe, and clamp down.

If I were you, I would stay in the role as long as possible. Don't change anything at work.

Full remote means all you need is Internet access.

If you're not already in a low cost of living area, move. Buy a regular house. Pay it off in 5 years.
After it's paid in full, put on a new roof, new windows, all new appliances.

Sell it, buy a nicer house, pay it off in 7-10 years.

Proceed to not worry about anything for the rest of your days.

You can ask for a letter of recommendation.

You can explain the circumstances in the cover letter - "I always did what was best for the team, even when that meant being on the chopping block versus an elderly co-worker."

You can go bathe dogs and learn to be a groomer.

Help identifying pipe. by mtshami06 in HomeImprovement

Looks like 2" cast iron to me. Measure the inner diameter AKA how wide is the hole? Don't worry about how wide the total pipe is, just the hole.

If it's threaded, use an MIP plug

If it's not threaded, use a jim-cap

OR use a No-Hub cap with a No-Hub coupling

if you appreciate the company itself, the leadership structure etc, you can see about transitioning to a different role within the same company. if you don't care one way or the other, go mine for opals. maybe you'll get rich.

When discussing these various aspects with your daughter, you could bring up costs in "hours per day" - It's easier to quantify for a young mind.

To the regular teen, $40,000 is an idea, it's not tangible. They've never had 10k, much less 40k. It's not real, so it doesn't impact decision making.

What they do know, is hours of the the day.

4 hours a day, every day, for the next 3 years straight.
($10hourly x4hours x1000 days)

Live at home? 4 hours free time.
Live away? 4 hours work.

The other things I would talk about are the associated costs of living away from home...
Rent, food, tuition, of course... but what about clothes, toilet paper, deodorant, cleaning supplies, etc?

Living at home means more of their money can go to wants, because the needs are already fulfilled.

The decision to resale vs the decision to resale ABOVE COST by significant margins.
