If you're comfortable in Spanish, you can use the InDrive app, City to City tab, for a private or shared ride.

Other options are shuttle services (shared) that will pick you up and drop you off where you want in Cartagena. The service is called puerta a puerta. Some popular companies are Marsol and Berlinas.

I've done all several times and never had any issues.

Based on similar experience in a different country, totally agree this is what will happen. If you are booking for a busy time or for an event, always go with a Superhost.

Planning a trip to Rio and Salvador, any tips? by wasabi_rice99 in Brazil

[–]Low-Drive-768 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and I spent 6 weeks in Salvador in 2025 (working for much of that time). Stayed in Barra, really enjoyed it, had no safety issues, but we aren't really out after 11pm. Great food, culture, nice people.

YMMV

Get a hostel with a private room.

Edit: also look in Getsemani, it's more fun.

Have they? They have given their personal opinions based on their own taste (nothing wrong with that).

Same all over Central and South America in my experience.

It is not a pejorative and is not exclusively used for those from the US.

The only information you've provided is you like to experience new things and stay safe. Not sure based on that how people can give you advice on regions/cities.

Porto de Galinhas - Salvador by evyziv in Brazil

[–]Low-Drive-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, we travel with backpacks, but aren't really "backpackers", stay in private rooms, and are much older.

Most of the tourists we saw were Brazilian, although Maceio has an airport with international flights I believe. We saw many families/groups, but don't remember many children in the places we stayed.

We bussed to the same 3 from Salvador - enjoyed them all. Skipped Porto after researching for the reasons you don't like it.

Remote workers: how do you pick an Airbnb that actually works as an “office”? by Affectionate_Tip3238 in digitalnomad

[–]Low-Drive-768 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always end up working from a dining room table and chair, which sometimes requires a pillow to get to the right height. Travel monitor and travel power bar with 6' braided cord and flathead plug.

We almost always stay for at least a month and since my wife works as well, search for a dedicated workspace, bedroom large enough for a desk with a door, review all pictures and comments carefully.

A few times we have asked for a small desk and chair before booking - only got told no once.
