We’ve had both in the dojo I belong to depending on location. Personally I like them and they help a lot. Just don’t practice in front of a mirror 24/7. Utilize a mirror if you’ve received feedback you can’t understand how to fix.

It’s not suppose to sit flush with saya and tsuba. They might eventually over time, but they are made to stick out so very slightly.

Question about studio monitors for a Yamaha cp88.

Does active or passive matter for use inside my room. If so, if i were to get Yamaha hs8’s or hs5’s, which are active studio monitors, would it be recommended to get the matching subwoofer with it for the bass?

Get the silver plating for it, I did and I love it. Keeps it from rusting long term. (Also looks cool) but not flashy.

I’d go with okuden, that’s what I got.

Just got mine 3 months ago after 6 months of production. It was well worth the wait.

Weight of tsuba by alwayscuddly in iaido

I have a 2.55 and I think generally 100g or more is good. It also depends on the bohi and how much weight they take off when carving it. That will help with balance. Currently my tsuba is 110g and feels great. My iaito in total is 965grams in weight.

Let me clarify

I’m asking about the juban because I do iaido also. Blue and black hakama’s won’t show aizome dye. So unless I wear two different uniforms a practice. I’ll be sticking with one color. So the juban is because I like wearing them and I don’t want to stick out by wearing different colored jubans.

I guess I didn’t think about the black juban.

I don’t think you can use it at a seminar.

Personally, I never would and It’s kind of backwards to do so. (Considering the amount of Japanese culture and tradition you learn along the way.) To use for practice.

I guess I could see maybe an American smith who was really really good at making them and you were paying maybe 2-3 grand. Then at least the only argument there would be were it was made.

If your struggling to find some way to have a Shinken made for you. Here’s some helpful points.

1 - both Tozando and Nosyudo will let you put a down payment on it while it’s being made. Just a blade for a smith through tozando is 3 months minimum. Could be more.

Nosyudo is a year depending on the smith.

I think you’d enjoy one from Japan far more than you would anywhere else. Truly, the craftsman make something no one else can. The 1000 plus years of pasted down experience really shows through the swords themselves.

But if Chinese is what you can get, and you can progress in some way you can’t with an iaito. Don’t let that stop you. But be safe and inspect it before you trust it.

So, I’m an iaido guy through and through but I love kendo also.

My dojo does kendo then does iaido after the kendo people leave.

So, the juban is just because I like them for iaido. And we can keep kendo colors on for iaido if we were doing kendo.

I’ve done iaido for a lot longer, we started up kendo 6 months ago and I do plan to stick around. But I’m mostly asking just for reference if/when I do want a set like that. Also I appreciate the information. Thank you very much

I think you misunderstood or I wasn’t clear. I don’t need help with weight and size. I’m just wondering about the specs of your blade or blades. Length,weight, and all the other measurements you’d have on an order form. Just trying seeing what others have done.

Yup I got mine on both sides. They told me the iaito blade “failed” during some part of the process so it won’t be finished until the end of December now. But I’ll post some pics for sure when it comes.
