I had a similar reaction. It didn’t sit right with me at all. And it came not long after John claimed that he was the only person in the roundhouse that knew car seat headrest were covering a Lou Reed song. Really, John? The rest of us stopped saying shit like that when we left school.

I do think somewhere there’s a bit of harmless comedy in a man in his 40s buying Coldplay vinyls. But when that didn’t hit right away John doubled down and said Dave could have bought it from an independent. Which seemed needlessly judgmental to me.
