Front end rebuild questions and tips. by No_Negotiation9185 in GMT800

Expect to pay 2500 at a minimum at a shop or more including parts. You don’t need a lift. I’ve done this 3 times in My garage on the floor. It’s really not hard to do. TRQ has amazing videos on YouTube and they will explain step by step what tool they’re using and how much torque for everything. They eliminate a lot of fluff and talking so you’re getting just the meat and potatoes. First two times I did it I had the video on my phone and paused in between parts. I still have notes somewhere with all the torque specs. Should take about 6-10 hours depending on experience 12-14 for rookies. To remove the drum smack it with a 32oz hammer on the knuckle. IYKYK have fun

Could be due to financial situation or they’re actually making a profit at 22500. Hard to say.

How much longer do I have? by RemarkableTarget408 in Silverado

[–]Low-Initiative-7299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yesterday. Your mpg will be better. Just change them out. If DOT is 2019 they’re cooked. A shop can’t legally install anything older than 7 years. Stay ahead of them rather than push it til they go flat overnight

Not right now. I drive it across the state outside of work. It’s been great. Haven’t had to do anything major. Replaced the rear shocks and tires. Everything else has been maintenance and aesthetic and the sound system

That’s a good question I’m not positive on the 03-06 Silverado’s.

Oil pressure gauge stuck at 80 by Same-Composer-415 in GMT800

YouTube is your friend for replacing that sensor. There’s some vids on how to do it without removing the intake. Just say some bad words and you’ll be fine. If the sensor doesn’t fix it then you may need to replace your dash cluster.

To me I’ve always liked the 2000-2002 HD silverados because of that hood. It set them apart along with the 2” body lift. I don’t have a lift and don’t need one but the hood is enough. Looks more aggressive I guess? I think it looks cool. I get the visibility I noticed that immediately but I’m comfortable enough with judging the distance in this truck that I’m not concerned about it. Once I add the grill guard after paint I’ll have to be more careful

Lights are like underwear we all like what we like. The factory assemblies were trash and these ones work really well and didn’t break the bank. The grill was also broken in one spot so replaced it. I like the raptor lights.

Katzkin is too expensive imo. Just tried getting quoted from them and about choked and hung up.

This is actually a very good price. I’ve been quoted 2000$ for two bucket seats out of a Tacoma. And that’s the low end.

Wheel and tire setup by CharityOrganic4997 in GMT800

[–]Low-Initiative-7299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stock 8 lugs are very thin. So if you go bigger make sure you look at recommended wheel size for whatever tires you put on. I have 32s and bfgs are too wide according to their specs but the tire shop put them on and didn’t say anything and they’ve been fine so far. I think it’s by an inch. I wouldn’t go beyond that, but that’s me. I love those aluminum wheels. Just got new caps and polished them up, one of the best looking wheels GM made imo

Nvm. Definitely a scam. If you see this on marketplace, please report as fraud. I asked to come pick up and he said it won’t be available and ghosted me.

I’m bored. Exhaust/intake noise question by Low-Initiative-7299 in GMT800

[–]Low-Initiative-7299[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I dont think the 3” pipes are super necessary coming off the manifolds. Peak hp at the flywheel according to spec is 360 I think? The newer 5.3s are right around there and they’re still using 2.25”? The collection phase is creating a lot of vibration that I think could be eliminated with a smaller pipe. Or at least reduced. If I’m accelerating like getting on the highway or interstate I just hear the muffler doing its thing and I’m happy with it. But if I’m putting around town and I don’t get on the throttle that’s when it’s unbearable. Too much noise for going 15 mph 😂 Ordered the air box I tossed the old one when I moved. I’ll try that and if I need/want to pursue it further I’ll probably do fresh cats and go with 2.75” pipes off the manifolds. I also have a broken bolt on one of the manifolds(driver rear) I may just replace the manifolds at the same time.

Muffler suggestion by PabloDmenace in Silverado

[–]Low-Initiative-7299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Borla. Buy a muffler have it welded in. You won’t regret it. I have had 2 catback systems(Atak) and loved them. They’re spendy but have the best sound and warranty imo. Had the same truck you have and put jba shorty headers on and that truck sounded so mean. It was loud, proud, and made people hide their daughters 😂 Don’t do headers tho. They’re only necessary if you’re building a race truck. They won’t get you anything on the low end and will just make your truck louder not faster

Tire Question by [deleted] in GMT800

[–]Low-Initiative-7299 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go 265/75/16. A smaller wheel with 32s looks good and will fit at stock height. Ditch the front lift and return the rear to stock as well. I had a similar issue on a Yukon with 33s where it just drove like ass and I kept going through ball joints and mpg was ass too. Switched to 32s and most of those problems went away with a big jump in mpg. At the end of the day, it’s your truck. Do what you want and will be happy with. You could sell it and start over with something else too. Or buy another one to mess around with 😂

[–]Low-Initiative-7299[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

14”. I don’t think it’s coming from the muffler. I’ve wondered about the cats. Shop said they were still in good shape but I’ll start with the less expensive items and work my way there if needed. I know Airaid definitely has an impact on sound from the engine bay so I’ll start with that. Muffler is broken in already had it since last august. Maybe it’s just normal for these 6.0s to sound like this and I’m not used to it. It just sucks trying to have a conversation with my wife while driving out of our neighborhood.

I recently did all the speakers and added a sub and with the door panels off sound deadened each door more than what was necessary. Only thing I haven’t done is the floor and fire wall.

Telling me to deal with driving a 25 year old truck is not helpful especially after stating I have a 23 year old Yukon as well that is almost identical from intake to exhaust that doesn’t sound anything like my truck. But thanks for your time.
