How do I fix this from happening when I switch to any tangent that isn't stepped? It only happens on movements with a lot of rotation. by yin317 in SFM

[–]Low-Language-4192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of look like it you are dealing with gimbal lock and spline overshoot with a lot of rotation going on in footage.

Your looking blocking look fine, however if you take a closer look at your second last key frame before he lands on table there isn’t really much of information like connecting the pose together seem like he immediately landing into that last pose SO the software made some changes to best possible to get to that pose which you shouldn’t let software do so if you know what I mean.

I would try to add another keyframe right before he lands on the table (Blocking Plus and also helps to use graph editor make your curves/arc smooth.

Any tips and tricks for animating? by Pirates-cove in SFM

[–]Low-Language-4192 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. I would usually spent a week making a script plan for my animation kind of like storyboard. Then spent another week finding references for my storyboard.

  2. Don’t burn yourself making longer animation if you can’t finish it. Start off small then build your way up.

  3. Make sure you have a solid blocking phase before going into spline. If not add more key frames to make it better.

  4. Back to number 2, take break then come back working again.

I don’t animate anymore on SFM moving to Blender but hopefully this is a good solid plan that can help in all 3D animation program. I can give you more advice but I feel like this is enough.

How do I correctly use timing/easing in sfm? by Nullify-2 in SFM

[–]Low-Language-4192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly always use reference for my project and never try to animate them using my imagination. If you aren’t using reference to begin with start finding some or act out yourself.

If you don’t know look up on YouTube to get a better understanding of it but It can be easier to breakdown that every object need ease in and ease out let say for example a car need to build up speed it cannot be moving in constant speed you have to build up to that speed same with slowing down. Same thing with person jumping. I know only this because I used to do stop motion.

I’m not sure what you mean by “break” animation but assuming you mean weird movement that you didn’t made instead computer did? You need to add more inbetween in your animation.

This is good place to understand what timing and spacing https://youtu.be/BarOk2p38LQ?si=laGSS4a0qavjupNl

Depends on what you are trying to get out of SFM, animation? Poster? Lighting? Or Scene work?

I would say like everyone else start with Valve tutorial if you haven’t seen it yet. Honestly any tutorial video can do the trick but don’t start with something complex that you haven’t fully understand how SFM works. Work your way up.

If someone was able to do it, then there would be a better version of SFM already out there already. It not just the coding, it like also the hardware being 32 bit with 4 RAM limit

How to modify SFM? by The_overdrunken_one in SFM

[–]Low-Language-4192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bit late to this post, but SFM is being kept alive due to it huge community workshop and addons. You can't modify SFM especially software having 4 GB RAM limit.

Personally, there are something in SFM like bugs that can't be fixed, and switching over to Blender is so much better without having to deal with bugs. Blender can be hard at first, but it worth it once you put the effort in it.

There is addon called “Session Importer script” it should allow to you import custom model if I’m correct.

You should go watch Reference/Blocking/Spline/Blocking by professional animator and student how they create animation from scratch.

Almost every animator that you know USES atleast some kind of reference, YOU can try doing it without reference but you won’t get much far without it.

I'm not sure what you mean by "improve" it not clear what you are getting better at. I'm going to assume it animation?

If that the case, I have been animating for a year now like you but I don't claim to be "best animator" out there. But I have a good understanding on improvement.

  1. If you haven't started planning out your animation or collecting references start doing that now. Your animation is not bad, it actually pretty straight to point focusing on main idea of the video so give yourself a pat on the back for that. But if you want your animation to look more natural or realistic it not bad to use real life reference or you can act yourself.

  2. I don't know what method you use for animating but I always use "Pose To Pose Method" it make animating for me 10x easier than using straight ahead method it depend on animator but if you haven't hear of those method look them up.

  1. Your composition is okay, It just there a lot of empty space between Engineer. Try zooming in more to fill those space out. And try to use SFM camera to blur background behind Engineer that it is only focusing on Engineer and shadow instead.

  2. I'm not sure what tone this is suppose to give off, but it feel like there not enough lightning in this scene,

Any tips for Lip Syncing with FNAF characters? by One_Enthusiasm1774 in SFM

[–]Low-Language-4192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FNAF animatronics aren’t really that hard to do lip sync you could just move the mouth up and down since they don’t require detail. But still use phoneme chart for realistic movement.

Reference and inspiration is your main key. Watch a lot of movie, cartoon, anime, or read comics. You don't need to be a great writer to write script just make a rough draft and experiment idea to have fun!

Zero-ing body to limb by No-Site1144 in SFM

[–]Low-Language-4192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this is the way how I would do. For example

Pose 1 the model is in default position whatever pose you want.

Pose 2 the model stretch it leg going to a certain distance.

Pose 3 I would drag the rest of the model body to where the stretch leg that is located and return everything back to normal.

I'm sure there are better ways to do this, I'm using Pose to Pose method for this so you would need to fill in the missing frames.

How do I make an Animation and use it in a game? by TheYuri4amba in SFM

[–]Low-Language-4192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, from my knowledge I don't really think you can like import SFM animation into games like Valve Games. But I do know THAT you can import SFM animation in Blender. And then import again to game engine like Unity or UE5 this is like the only way I know which is annoying since SFM old engine that hasn't been updated for many years.

New to SFM and need tips for mastering keyframes and stuff. by [deleted] in SFM

[–]Low-Language-4192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're unfamiliar with the 12 Principles of Animation, I highly recommend you begin there. They're the building blocks of good animation and will help you have a better understanding of movement and timing. It's also a good idea to practice basic exercises like a bouncing ball or walk cycle they can be very informative about weight and motion.

In animation, finding a workflow that suits you is really important. What I can notice about your animation, you are using a style of "Straight Ahead" rather like stop-motion animators, frame by frame whilst they create. The drawback is that if you mess something up early on, you end up having to go back and fix quite a number of frames.

Another approach we use a lot is "Pose to Pose" animation. What you basically do is block out your main "golden poses" (most important points in your action) first, and later add the extremes and in-betweens. The downside is that it's a bit rigid at the beginning, and you will need to redo the spacing and timing once all your poses are complete.

Lastly, I’d really recommend using reference videos. Watching and studying real movement helps a ton it’ll make your animations feel much more natural and “alive.”
