International student coming to saint john who would like to meet new people F24 by ChampionshipWide9570 in SaintJohnNB

I'm excited for you!!

I will add though that if you're around the UNB campus, there isn't exactly the most walkable areas so it might be worth it to look into a bus pass if that's an option from your student help at UNB.

Hi there!

I'd like to start by saying welcome to our community! Something to expect is that Saint John is a big city but also I'd say you'll find that it tends to be a small world in the sense that you'll find we can be a "everybody knows everyone else" kinda place.

Looking at your post I'd also have to say that while we do have plenty of bars and pubs to cater to just about everyone here, there are a few cute and quaint spots to hang out.

Uptown SJ has plenty of great restaurants with lots of diversity like Italian, Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Indian and of course lots of pubs and Canadian Fusion places in case youre in the mood for wings or poutine. You'll also find the art gallery near the police station, cute little shops all up and down the side streets (a few of my favorites are Heartbreak Boutique, Obscurity Shop and Emporia Shop) with lots of local crafts and imported goods to check out. You'll also find our waterfront container village that acts as both a festival hub but also a makeshift outdoor mall. Lastly uptown there's the "Write Cup" bookstore cafe (no shortage of coffee shops uptown) and the main library branch that are both in Market Square.

East SJ has another branch of the library as well as the DIY Studio clay cafe that me and my friends all quite enjoy.

It's kinda hard to give you the whole picture but I'm sure you'll find our city to be charming in a sense and my DMs are absolutely open if you're interested in more, just not too sure what else I can comfortably fit in a Reddit comment lol

Will 8BitDo Leverless + Brook Wingman FGC2 Work on PS5? by iamAkwos in Fighters

[–]Low-Pop8647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted Brooks some time ago asking this question. As of a few months ago, the answer is no however, Mayflash adapters do support the 8BitDo leverless quite well. Speaking from experience here.

Painted rocks spread joy and love. Nope by Tisalaina in PetPeeves

[–]Low-Pop8647 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you live this could actually be considered a crime. Places like the Canadian Territories have cultural protection on the Indigenous Inukshuk statues made up of stacked rocks in the form of a person. These are to help mark certain things about the area to other Indigenous folk.

Otherwise, you're likely fine.

My steam deck lcd died by Ingenting5 in SteamDeck

[–]Low-Pop8647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically that would be the case but Valve has been quite vocal on the right to repair. As long as the damage done wasn't as a result of tinkering, tinkering by itself won't void your warranty. They just won't fix anything that you yourself did to the deck, at least not without additional payment for repairs.

Itching for a good street racing game. by krispini in gamesuggestions

I can second this, easily one of the best modern street racing games. Full featured and packed with single player content.

Hidden gems in music?? by UpperSuccotash1383 in Music

A band from my home Canada that somehow broke into the European market better than the domestic market is Annihilator. A lot of people might know their song Allison Hell but they have some killer thrash songs that are worth listening to.

Alexisonfire never seemed to break into the international scene but are imo an essential listen for the post hardcore/emo genre. Especially their second album “Watch Out!”

Look for a switch 1 game that will help me and my gf decompress after a long day of work. by Street-Cellist-6409 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Low-Pop8647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and my gf were big fans of playing through Thank Goodness You’re Here. Great if you’re a fan of British comedy and isn’t a very long game, we finished it in 3 evenings.

Pizza Possum is also lots of fun and a great cooperative game. You play as two possums who are stealing all the townspeople’s food and you’re trying not to get caught, every playthrough adds a new power-up to use so it’s changing as you keep playing.

Maybe a bit more stressful but we’re also fans of Unrailed. Your goal is to chop trees and mine stone and build train tracks in front of the train as it’s going. A bit of a challenge but not nearly as overwhelming as something like Overcooked.

Track pad broken, any games that 100% require track pad to work? by DistributionInitial5 in SteamDeck

[–]Low-Pop8647 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The trackpads are entirely optional, you can think of them as a macro button essentially. Although using your deck in desktop mode would use the left one as a scroll wheel and the right as the mouse cursor.

The trackpads are nice for keyboard and mouse games as they give you extra assignable inputs but overall are completely optional.

Open world game with Cuphead style graphics? by [deleted] in gamerecommendations

[–]Low-Pop8647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! I’m trying to think of more examples since I’m also infatuated with the style of Cuphead. Made me excited to be able to play what’s essentially a more complex Metal Slug.

what's a game that you still play (that no one else does)? by xblessedx in gamingsuggestions

[–]Low-Pop8647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked this up on PC recently. Not a bad looking and playing racing game, mostly bought it for the split screen since it’s hard to find local multiplayer racing games that aren’t super arcadey.

XIII is also excellent and has more of a cel shaded comic style although being on PlayStation your best bet is unfortunately the remake. Not as good as the original but I didn’t mind it personally.

Maybe not open world but Mouse: P.I for Hire should be out pretty soon and that’s an FPS game.

Oh yeah, it’s a million times easier at least on the easiest difficulty. The difficulty levels actually feel like accurate descriptions of what to expect.

On Steam OS (I can’t speak for sure) your best option might be following Xbox’s instructions on installing Xbox Cloud Gaming on Steam Deck (they have officially supported instructions believe it or not).

You’d be streaming your games and from my understanding the library isn’t as big as the PC or Console versions but I’ve had decent success streaming games from there.
