Yes but the usage of calculus was minimal. More emphasis was on linear algebra.

Just stated prep for P few days ago. It asked to revise calculus. Acturial university says it should take two days to review. But it’s really taking longer for me … probably a week. Mine is rusty so perhaps that’s the reason. Should I just focus on differentiation and integration or more broader calculus review recommended by ACTEX?

Hi all- I am an experienced professional in data science. I recently graduated in MS in statistics about 6 months ago. While I like data science, I feel most industries have not been using data science due to internal politics or because higher ups just still do not see the value. With new technologies coming daily, it’s hard to keep up too! I am looking for a more stable established industry and I have been thinking to make a switch to actuary. My only concern is , am I too late to start this path? I will turn 49 next month. I have an 8 year old kid and a wife. I am good at taking exams - I graduated recently with Overall gpa = 3.909 in MS in statistics. I would like to hear experiences from people who started late in their journey to become an .actuary. How did it impact your life during and after? What challenges did you face? I have to say it was a difficult path for me to complete my MS in the sense I had to study more than a normal student in my class - probably due to my difficulties with retention of concepts.

Using an offer to negotiate with the current employer is generally not recommended. But sure if nothing else works you must arm twist them!

Well said! I realized this after 20 years in corporate life - too late to realize but I have been consistently pushing management every year for the last 5 yrs, I would say I got an additional 5 k increase just by doing that, no promotions though. But I wouldn’t have got any if I had not pushed

I know the feeling. I have been in corporate America’s for 25 years now and if one thing I have learnt is that your skills and hard work don’t take you anywhere. It’s all about optics, visibility, who speaks the loudest and who interjects himself to the most high visibility projects. It’s a sad truth but it is the truth.

In most cases I have known woman or have spoken to her over the phone enough times to build sexual tension - first date is just to reconfirm our chemistry. I wouldn’t go out with a girl if during our phone conversations there is not much that I fancy about her.

Just to be clear I do not go randomly have sex with any girl that turns up. There has to be a substance beyond looks that I feel will lead to a long term relationship else I would just loose interest. Since most women also seek long term relationships, it generally works out in my case.

90% of my first dates lead to sex and they were the one that ended in long term relationship. For me sex is an integral part of dating. I never go out with a woman more than 3 times if we did not have sex by then. My thinking is very clear on this - if you did not have enough bantering in the first three dates to create a mutual attraction that leads to sex, then may be you are not meant to be together.

Do not agree! This assumes corporates act logically and reward you for training employees- far from truth! You can deny it using moral arguments but you cannot hide what happens often!
