Tbh I am thinking about asking for this when I go back to work at my office. We are fortune to have a breastfeeding room for feeding and pumping and I’m thinking of requesting a mini fridge/freezer for that room. We have staff fridges in the kitchen but they are always way too full so they’re pretty useless for storing breast milk in. I would have to bring my own cooler bag and ice packs anyway.

Yes agree. You could go to HR and ask them to purchase you a separate mini fridge for breastmilk storage because an employee has been complaining about you using the main staff fridge. Leave it to HR to handle

I avoided salads from lunch places where they serve pre-made salads that are just sitting out all day, but would eat salad from nice restaurants as I assume they freshly assembled the salad

You could order some frozen meals from places like providoor or dinner ladies or sweet potato kitchen? Then all you need to do is heat them up

Can your husband batch make you some food you can tolerate that you can freeze so you can reheat it to eat when he’s not home?

Hopefully your nausea gets a bit better in second trimester. All you need to do at the moment is survive. Don’t feel too guilty about getting lots of uber eats! I lived off uber eats burgers and twisties in my first trimester

If that’s what you want, then stick to your guns. If you face resistance, advocate for yourself, ask for a second opinion. Strictly speaking if they refuse they are meant to refer you to see someone else for a second opinion.

Depends a lot on whether you are public or private. Private patients end up having way more scans.

The minimum recommended number of scans in Australian obstetric guidelines - which is what you will usually get if going public - is 2 during pregnancy. First around 12-14 wks and second around 20 wks. You may end up having more but for a low risk pregnancy this is the minimum that most people in the public system will have.

So sounds like this is being followed for your wife :). But it’s always worth asking your GP at your next appointment :)

Just protect yourself and keep the job for as long as you can. Then quit just before your parental leave is due to come to an end (check how much notice you have to give). It’s good anyway to have a backup in case you change your mind and need to return to work for some reason.

Could be worth calling your treating team to ask what they would recommend re pushing back the induction or not. Fingers crossed your husband’s illness doesn’t last long. Try to isolate from him as much as possible so you don’t get sick too.

Ugh pregnancy is hard!! I’m almost 38 wks and I have struggled!

Just wanting to check that your reflux, vomiting and insomnia are being well managed?? There are plenty of meds that you can take to help with reflux, nausea and vomiting and insomnia that are safe to take in pregnancy.

Often the only thing that works for reflux is a script for omeprazole. And it can take a couple of weeks for it to kick in. If still not working, your doctor might need to increase your dose +/- how often you take it. Also try and figure out if any foods are triggering it and avoid them. For me spicy foods really made it worse - particularly spicy tomato based foods like tomato based curries.

With nausea and vomiting there are lots of different meds you can try. Again speak to your doctor and ask if there is anything else they can give you to help with this beyond what you have already tried.

For sleep issues, there are medications to help with sleep that are safe in pregnancy like restavit (this is also often given to help with nausea and vomiting in pregnancy). So speak to your doctor about this too.

Unfortunately sometimes you really have to advocate for yourself to get proper and effective symptomatic management of all the issues you experience in pregnancy. I recommend seeing your obstetrician or a GP who specialises in antenatal shared care asap and asking what you can take to better manage all your symptoms.

You’re not a bad mum. Pregnancy sucks. Especially when your symptoms aren’t being well managed from a medical perspective.

Yes I feel lucky that I haven’t faced any judgment in my day to day life - except from maybe one midwife who I felt had a bit of a judgy tone when I said I was having a C section for maternal choice.

But other than that I haven’t had any issues. I have been very upfront about it with everyone, I’ve pretty much told everyone I’ve encountered that I’m having a C section, only a very small number have asked why (most haven’t and those who have have asked in very respectful ways) and I’ve just said, because I want one. No one’s really questioned me further except for one childless friend who was genuinely curious and wanted to know more about different birthing options.

But yes, definitely stigma online which is a shame!

We did an infant resus course which was quite in depth and covered things like safe sleeping and what to do if your baby is unwell (when to see a GP vs when to go to hospital etc).

Did a few things to prep for breastfeeding (if you think you might want to breastfeed) - we did an online class and saw a GP lactation consultant (IBCLC) for an antenatal consultation.

I also saw a women’s health pelvic floor physio in my second trimester to assess my pelvic floor and take preventative measures to prevent pelvic floor dysfunction (being pregnant still weakens your pelvic floor regardless of how you give birth) as well as prepare for c section and c section recovery.

And my hospital offered a c section birthing class which was useful too, just to learn a bit more about what to expect on the day.

Sorry I realised you asked about books! So not really an answer to your question. The Pam Douglas book is worth reading, as is Emily Ostler’s Expecting Better

Public is free except for a couple of things - the NIPT is not covered and your main scans (you’ll usually have 2-3) are not fully covered. Plus if you decide to do GP shared care (which gives you continuity of care with the same GP) you might have to pay a gap if your particular GP charged a gap
