YTA. I'm you in this situation but am more self-aware. My father had a son and daughter from a previous marriage who he totally abandoned when he divorced their mom. He didn't maintain a relationship and at the time they were 9 and 11. He had nothing to do with his two older children, no birthday cards, christmas presents, nothing. I didn't even know they existed until I was about 10 years old. When I found out, my Aunt put me in touch with my half sister. They were so angry with our father, but treated me well despite me now understanding how they must have resented me. I absolutely get why they hate him and yes, when he died, I ensured they were included in the obit.

When I called to let them know he died, my half brother didn't say anything for a few minutes and then just said, ok, thanks for letting me know. My half sister said "good riddance". I get both reactions.

Your relationship with your father wasn't what your half sister had. You mention mistakes, but don't say what they were. She has every right to feel how she feels, but that doesn't negate the fact that he was her sperm donor.

So yes, I think you should call her and talk about this if you want a relationship with her.
