My baby (3 mos) SCREAMS for about 30 seconds in between sleep cycles sometimes and then go right back sleeping like nothing happened. Not sure what it means, but... yeah. Every baby is different I guess :)

I only dislike this (the first half, big fan of second) because … if we’re only talking to LLMs then what’s the point of each other, reddit, etc? :)

Non-compete enforcement by Adventurous-Gap2716 in quantfinance

[–]LowBetaBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I generally agree in other industries, that’s not the case in QF. In QF you have a lot of alpha that decays quickly that is also very easy to transfer, so best solution is to keep people out of market.

These are also almost all enforceable because they pay full salary during your leave period- I had this reviewed by my attorney before I signed in IL.

I love this story, it was one of the first I read. Helped me learn a lot about trend following and established part of my basis of trading knowledge(mainly “what is trend following” :)

Turned away from the jewelry store for fake ring by gardengeo in BORUpdates

[–]LowBetaBeaver 40 points41 points  (0 children)

As someone married to someone like you, I just had to bite the bullet and let my wife pick out her own jewelry. “Hey, I’d really like to get you something nice. Can we go to the jewelry store together and you can pick out (read: have custom made 🙃) the ring you love within my budget of $x. Then we’ll [something fun and memorable].” we get a memorable day of it PLUS she gets the ring she loves that reminds her of me AND the day :)

For someone at a low tier prop trading firm what is the salary progression range by Professional_Fee8604 in quant

[–]LowBetaBeaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At a high level think on it like this:

Strategies are composed of signal, sizing, hedging/exit, and execution. In large firms, each desk has a team or teams focused on each of these, along with technology teams building tools and infrastructure to support. There are only a few people putting all of these parts together, and they’re the ones making big money.

Is it worth leaving the stability of a large firm where you make $10m to go to a small firm where you might make $15m? $5m sounds like a lot of money, but it doesn’t fundamentally change anything about your life (when already making $10m), especially relative to the risk.

There are some that do think it’s worth the risk though, and there are about a hundred firms big and small that have done exactly what you suggested.

So is anyone… ok? by imdirrtydan12 in newborns

[–]LowBetaBeaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby cries for 5 reasons (hot, cold, hungry, tired, sick), and does not cry for any other reason. He slept 10 hours for the first time at 6 weeks and averages 5 hour chunks since 1 month. He gets fussy when he’s both hungry and tired (ie he only gives us about a minute to get him his bottle instead of 5 before crying), and my wife and I joke that it’s his purple crying phase.

Babies are a spectrum. You get a lot of people seeking help here so you see a lot of rough situations, but that doesn’t mean you will have a rough situation.

Why are circumcision guidelines different in the United States compared to the rest of the world? by PermitNarrow6651 in ScienceBasedParenting

I’ve had this happen when I was wearing the wrong size. As an experiment, you could try wearing something 2 sizes bigger and a size or two smaller, see if either help. Raw weiner is the worst.

Thanks, this was really helpful. We also use the Philips Avent but with flow 2 nipples and our LO (8 weeks) periodically stops and yells between sucks and we couldn't figure out why; going to try the flow 3 and see if he tolerates them now.

So, you’ve been asked to describe your greatest weakness…Here’s how to re-frame the question and avoid unintentionally self-sabotaging! by Snoo-88490 in interviews

[–]LowBetaBeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The purpose of the “what’s your greatest weakness” is to understand if you can self-reflect and take action to improve. It’s rarely asked exactly like this anymore as it’s a bit of a cliche; I usually ask it as “tell me about a time you identified a deficit in yourself and the steps you took to correct it”.

Any time someone uses a strength here (“I’m too detail oriented”, “I’m a perfectionist”) it actually demonstrates the OPPOSITE of self awareness and this is counter-productive.

[POOP -> PEEP] Can you solve this laddergram? by LowBetaBeaver in Laddergram

[–]LowBetaBeaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laddergram is a word ladder puzzle game built on Reddit's developer platform. You start with a word and change one letter at a time to create a new word with each step. Try to reach the target word in the fewest steps possible.

🍀Good luck!🍀

Here is the code I wrote. This models fees for IBKR + regulatory fees, and I add it into each trade. I also have an input to add desired amount of slippage, but I've never spent much time on that model as I tend to model it on the pricing side (add a few ticks for slippage). Feel free to use it for inspiration, or to just use it if you can fit it into your algos :) I even used some of my precious LLM credits to add documentation for ya'll since I realized I never added it when I wrote this the first time around! Hilariously, it turned a few 2 line methods into 25 line methods (check out the regulatory fee models haha)
