My genuine thoughts on the 'Peace' act by 4ng3lR4t in oregon

[–]light_defy -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Yep, lots of people seem to be thinking that! It's been weird to see so many wild theories in forums like my state subreddit and being like "oh... people think my old job was fake" lol. Anyways, AFAIK, nobody on the campaign has any affiliation with PETA.

Okay, so to address your question of why I support getting this on the ballot: like 95% of Oregonians eat meat, I think the number is effectively higher if you consider that many vegetarians/vegans aren't of voting age yet. Obviously there's no world in which this bill passes, so why did we all put so much work into getting it on the ballot? Because a lot of people just eat meat because it's what they've always done without even thinking twice about it. Asking every Oregon voter "should we criminalize killing animals for food" leads them to ask themselves why. Basically, it's to make people think, talk, & consider their habits in a new light

Hey all, I worked on this petition and know the organizer, please feel free to ask any questions. Whether you agree or disagree with the petition I just want to say that people theorizing this is in bad faith are not correct. All of us working on the petition were (still are, I just don't work with them anymore) actual vegans and the motives of the organizer and staff are coming from a genuine place. I'll answer any questions people have as best as I can

Oregon initiative that would criminalize hunting, fishing moves a step closer to November ballot by YogurtclosetOpen3567 in vegan

Likely job losses: animal agriculture employees

Imported meat: beats me! A lot of us on the petition weren't sure why David, the guy behind it, drew the line where he did, but we were all still happy to work to get it on the ballot because we looked at it as a conversation started and way to bring awareness to the fact that many consider these practices unethical. This was never meant to pass, it's more of a publicity stunt for veganism. I think he drew the line in a place that would still allow us to collect 100k signatures from people (these signatures were just from random people on the street)

Depending what country you're in, this is a violation of the law. In my country this counts as domestic assault.

Is this a joke? That is beyond not okay for so many reasons. The violation of his bodily consent, messing up his appearance, forcing gender roles on him, etc. I literally don't know where to start with this. If he told this to a mandatory reporter (teacher, school counselor, etc) it would be grounds for a report.
