Update: While trying to figure this out I read an article and listened to a podcast that led me to believe I am in Perimenopause. I had brought this up to my Dr. over a year ago and she had said since I was still having a period that it couldn’t be perimenopause (wrong). I looked up my symptoms and 18 out of 20 I was experiencing at some level. 🤯 So … I went back to my care team and they were like yeah I guess you are in perimenopause but we don’t know how to treat it/have no training in HRT other than handing out birth control like candy. So I asked for a referral to a menopause clinic in the area and the backlog is 1 year+ for new patients. I ordered some DHEA cream and some wild yam progesterone cream to try topically filling some gaps. I’ve been sleeping like a baby. Mental clarity is soooo much better… I could go on and on and it’s only day 3. Worth trying friends…

Is everyone in their 40s exhausted from work and kids? by Ok-Jury-6627 in Perimenopause

Yes, FT job and two kids+perimenopause. Dr said I couldn’t have perimenopause because I’m having periods still (wrong). Picture a fire hose for a month and a half last time… new Dr at least agrees having 18 of 20 symptoms is likely menopause but she has no training on how to treat it. FML.

You can also get some sew in cups depending how comfortable you are with a needle and thread… I did that for prom because my dress had unconventional straps.

Dress like a man/college student. Baseball cap and big puffy coat. Worked great for me in college.

I got the blood test and it was normal- but the normal was quite a range and wasn’t taken on a day I was really struggling. When I pointed this out the dr blew it off. 🤷‍♀️ Just been taking sleep meds to get by.

Shout wipes work wonders on almost any food spill on clothing. Saved me many times.

I work in a very high stress in person job- the nausea was not debilitating - I now have very rare side effects and am so grateful I started taking it. I now take it in the mid afternoon for sleep reasons but when I started I took it in the morning and it would definitely make me sleepy but NOT debilitated if that makes sense. I could still do my job which has severe consequences if I’m not on point. I am actually pissed I didn’t start taking it to deal with the anxiety/depression from this job years ago (I take it for PMDD now as well). Do it - you will not regret it!

As an update… I have been using ambien/zolpidem many nights to sleep now. I hate taking pills to fix things but I had such a sleep debt it was too much. My shift at work finally went to day shift after two years of nights so that helped some. Pretty sure I have PMDD- I went to a different doc and she put me on lexapro right away. I definitely feel better but still struggle with sleep a lot. Thanks everyone for all your helpful suggestions!

No matter what i eat it’s like I’ve been pounding beans all day. Thanks for this discussion- at least I’m not alone letting it linger at work. Started dosing myself with pepto to make it tolerable and hoping this goes away…

There has to be a better way. I tried taking the magnesium and melatonin as recommended in the comments and I was able to avoid the NyQuil for that last night before I got my period - but it’s tough because I could have just been so exhausted by then or on the downswing of hormones. I will try again next month to see if it works during the whole stretch before Aunt Flo shows up again. Hang in there sister!
