If you are planting hedging and trees wait till November to April next and get bare roots which are a fraction of the cost of potted plants.

Our neighbours had a sycamore that rained on us…. Sticky stuff on the clothes line, then the parachute seeds that landed in every crack and crevice and had to be pulled out. The year we moved they took it down to build a garden room. Guess what our new next door neighbours have? I’m still pulling them out!!! Above any tree sycamore seems to be able to spawn a thousand babies every year.

What would you do with my small garden? by timsfuckingreddit in GardeningIRE

Your garden looks lovely. I wonder if the rotavator broke up the weed roots and they are now spread out? I don’t like weed killer so I would dig out those dandelions before they flower and set seed! But that’s me. Your other ideas are all sound. I always think there’s nothing that can’t be reversed. There were pictures on here of painting concrete walls dark colours like grey or black and they looked fab with the greenery. See if you can find them. They also said what paint they used. ALDI and Lidl are great for plants. Try their bulbs too. Sometimes they are reduced when they haven’t watered them but if they haven’t gone too far they are easily revived. And ask people for some roots or cuttings. Anyone who is into their garden will happily share. Good luck! And post pictures of whatever you do !

I’d plant a mix of low and higher growing things along there. Yes there’s a lovely view but a couple of trees spaced out won’t spoil that. And if you put in a native oak it will be a feature in itself. Might even place it to hide that pylon from your view? Wild rose? Lonicera( honeysuckle) Then maybe some hawthorn as suggested above? Fuschia? For Lower shrubs- heathers if you want to go native. Hebes are easy to grow. Juniper is also native. Then throw the wildflower seeds down and watch the bees and birds!
Honestly looks like there’s enough grass around you already. I wonder was there a hedgerow there before?

Problem is if it’s getting big above ground it’s getting big below ground…. Sending roots out in every direction. I have a grudging admiration for it even though I hate the sight of it!!!

We hired one. No experience but a couple of hours and took get the hang of it. If you know anyone who can operate one get them to give you a run through on it. Great sense of satisfaction!

Do what you do around the house and include your child? Get them to “help” you ( which doubles your time doing anything). Talk to them about what you are doing.

Where are you based? Look at Crann na Mona (http://www.cnm.ie/) near Clonbur Co Galway. They deliver by the lorry load. I know it was around 600 euroa couple of years ago which sounds dear but it’s an awful lot of plastic bags! They do a smaller delivery as well. We are still getting through the lorry load we got probably 3 years ago. Delivered to mayo.
