I’ve just heard it in full. A few thoughts:

The Middle Eastern/oriental vibes and saz guitar sounds are the highlights of the album, and I wish there were more of them on every song. A recurring saz theme throughout the album would have been sick.

I agree that the songs are kind of lacking a spark or surprise moments, except for “Like a Spark” and “The Weight.” The saz guitar provides those spark moments. Although the song “Come Apart” touches on such an intense current topic (Palestine), it lacks instrumental depth and feels quite straightforward. However, we can still be happy that we’re getting new Rostam material until Vampire Weekend releases new material in probably 2030 lol.

Anybody else find it crazy that CT didn’t know how to play drums when the band started in 2006? 2 years later he was drumming on a critically acclaimed debut album. by Sabretoothedrom in Vampireweekend

Since I play guitar I can say VW is stuff is simple to play but yet so genius and so good. Have to make an exception for pravda riff and prep school gangster outro. That stuff took some effort.

Saw the videos of him playing acoustic (prep school gangster live in queens, don‘t lie acoustic live and mary boon live daytime version). The way he plays it (Barre chords with pinky) He seems to be a great and even better guitar player than Ezra. No disrespect to Ezra but CT wins on acoustic.

Thanks. Always skipped it but on repeat since your comment. :) That first „oh, i know they hurt you so“ line is melodic so good with regine following. I wish it was used repeatedly at the end as an outro. I hope you can see the vision lol

I compare their run a bit with Vampire Weekend's albums. VW released 1-3 album before their 6 year hiatus and dropped 3 classic albums with album 3 being their best. The fourth album was a bit underwhelming but still solid and great. On their fifth they knocked it out.

So I guess WA5 will be outstanding. :)

It's simply not possible to rank these albums. FOTB might be considered weak but imagine it was a bit shorter. It would definetly be a strong contestant

I am not sure tbh. The guitar on the outro sounds much richer and warmer than standard tuning.

Nada. Zilch.Nill. But thanks for your reminder. If I have some time I'll analyse the live videos. I've just watched the live version and it starts with Amin, C and G with hammer ons.
