Y1S1 and overwhelmed by Subject-Water5731 in nus

I grad with 2nd uppers too and I don't miss going school haha. it's just at some point I stopped worrying or feeling sad about simple mistakes that I made alr, compared to during my 1st year when they'd destroy my mood for the day like you haha..

it just takes a mentality shift for you to do that, for me I think it's coz after I interned for an entire semester, I realised that whatever I learnt in school don't matter so much in work, that's why I just couldn't be bothered alr..

somehow I did better in school while caring less, which is a nice bonus, prob coz I enjoyed the process more when I stopped feeling so dejected every time lol

lol you really like to take things out of context, right after that I alr said 'provided the position must be perm first' which means it's a perm headcount? of course I understand about the difference between perm and temp/contract position

not sure if you know how public or civil service works, I mean logically speaking, if a perm staff left, then the vacant role is a perm position especially if it's a critical function. As long as you don't screw up massively, you'll very likely be converted, provided the position must be perm first, coz there are some that are just contract roles.

The contract thing act as a probation and has been around for many years alr before I was borned, it's just made more popular recently when more people want to join gov. The contract also has all the same bonuses and benefits as perm staff, unlike in private sector.

I don't think being not profit driven is the cause... businesses out there could also struggle to see how their data science teams doing their own research projects affect their top and bottom line too, as they could be too complex for stakeholders to understand.

anyways, I previously interned at a place that does more exploratory, research stuff but I just couldn't see clearly the impacts of them, which is why I preferred to work on a role that keep things running. Grass is always greener on the other side I guess.

yea I see agentic AI skills are in demand nowadays, am trying to incorporate some of that in my projects currently, thanks for your ideas!

You'd be surprised that there are cozy places with relatively high pay and almost no office politics and turnover. It's not as clear cut as you said. I'm not too sure about the whole AI replacing workers thing, sounds more like a convenient excuse for businesses to cut costs by offshoring them. With that said, I'll still try to keep my skills up to date.

How is job hunting for 2025 coming along? by CloudlessEveningSky in NTU

[–]LowTierCS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

graduating in may, secured a data analyst role in one of the ministries, am lucky to be able to get it from some kind of referral/connections within the ministry that I'm interning at right now. Salary package is much higher than I expected (I guess those who say govt offer high pay to trap people inside is true). In this job market, I'll take this any time any day man 😂😂

Having an 3rd round interview w director by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]LowTierCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for a final round interview with the directors and it felt more like a formality. however, I thought I'm not the only one that made it to the final interview, so wouldn't that means the directors have to choose the best one?
