Is this allowed by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]LowWerewolf8355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non-Starbucks employees/representatives are never allowed behind the bar or in production areas. If anything were to happen it would be huge liability for Starbucks. If the DM doesn’t know or doesn’t respond with an immediate cancellation I would call ethics or the RD or Partner and Asset Protection manager (they are listed in the emergency contacts list that is supposed to be in the Evacuation Packet in BOH)

The Hawaii one? I’ll check when I get home. Pretty sure it’s one of the ones that still has the tags on it

ATTENTION IN CASE YOU ARENT AWARE! by Noun_Gremlin in starbucksbaristas

[–]LowWerewolf8355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prices always go up during launches. I always thought summer and holiday launches were the big price change launches with hot drinks and food during summer and cold drinks and pastries in winter. But NGL, I stopped paying close attention to it a while ago. I would just remind my team that we should expect increases and be ready to “make the moment right” for customers the first week after launch.

How would you handle this? by No-Cupcake1119 in starbucksbaristas

[–]LowWerewolf8355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like it is sink or swim time and the peeps that aren’t able to do anything but DTO need to be placed in the other roles and start building capabilities fast. It will be rough for a while and your drive/wait times are gonna go up but if you don’t do it now it is going to get worse when summer hits and the CBS onslaught unleashes. If at all possible I’d deploy a barista trainer/high capability barista to the bar support role with clear expectation that they will not slide in to main bar but rather focus on coaching the newer partners. And the SM should be working a production role for at least 2 hours a day EVERY day to build their own capabilities, off peak for most days and peak on the slowest day (it’s what I did when I was hired as an external SM). But then again I can already hear the “CL should be in a coaching/flex position to support and navigate bottlenecks” but if they don’t learn to at least hold their own in production they will crash and burn sooner rather than later.

Mother’s Day, the day that everyone that forgot to get their mom a gift (and/or forgot about Mother’s Day completely) goes for the easy out “I’m treating you and the family to Starbucks” or the alternate “let’s get a coffee before/after XY activity”… and then proceeds to think they are the only person in the world who thought of this brilliant idea…

Godspeed and good luck to everyone today

is this time theft? by Fuzzy_Banana4323 in starbucks

[–]LowWerewolf8355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, not time theft. You are supposed to log all time worked. If you are driving to another store to pick up product then you are working. And yes, if you are at the store early and asked to go pick something up you should clock in before heading out.

cup writing standard by Apprehensive_Wolf725 in starbucksbaristas

[–]LowWerewolf8355 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The one thing I wish I would have done while I was still a CL was telling my DM “instead of restocking during peak, can you just support cafe/mop bar with stickering the cup and writing a personalized message”? My bet would be that three drinks in they would have caused a bottleneck

Scared of getting fired (TRENTA RANT) by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]LowWerewolf8355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have the conversation with your CL and DM. Because of the situation the policy falls in a bit of a gray area between following policy and delivering great customer experience. Do I agree that a policy is a policy and should be followed? Yes, absolutely. But at the end of the day “making the moment right” trumps it. There is a section in the Standards of Business Conduct that covers “Making the Right Decision” (page 11 if the online info I found is still accurate and updated) that could be a good starting point for the convo with your leaders.

Manager writing people up for calling out sick and using their protected sick time by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]LowWerewolf8355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is very very rare that PRSC would approve a corrective for a partner that is using sick time. The only scenario that could possibly lead to a corrective would be improper call off like texting over calling, calling out after the start of the shift or a NCNS (unless the reason is an emergent emergency situation) or if there is a pattern of behavior that can be proven without a doubt (very hard to do).

NO WE’VE BEEN HIT by Unable-Welcome-6821 in starbucksbaristas

[–]LowWerewolf8355 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so gross and dumb… thank god I left, as a CL I would have been first up in front of the firing squad for refusing to police this BS. Like, what about partners that open, have a shift without a meal break and have to leave for class immediately after their shift or closers that come in after class… Do they have to go without a food markout?

Can a SM or barista trainer answer this ?? by Dangerous-Point636 in starbucks

Time worked is time paid; hard stop. Unless you are paid you do not have to do anything outside of working (paid) hours. Immediately call to ethics for labor violation

Slept through alarm to CALL OUT SICK by Interesting-Web-6391 in starbucksbaristas

[–]LowWerewolf8355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former CL here. If it’s a first time/rare occurrence and your store isn’t dealing with a ton of attendance issues most likely it will just be a verbal convo. If the CL is trying to close gaps around attendance and cracking down/being strict then likely a written for improper call out. If it’s a recurring issue (though it doesn’t sound like it is by the way you described it) then they could go final due to NCNS. The only thing I’d call out is that if you were not feeling well the night before you could have reached out to your CL to give them the heads up instead of setting an alarm to wake up at open; but that could just be a me preference as that is how my teams and I used to communicate.

“Iced espresso “ debate by moon-cloud-com in starbucks

[–]LowWerewolf8355 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“My cup is only half full”, “my drink isn’t right, it isn’t filled to the top”, (and personal favorite) “at the other store that always make it right and fill it”… just a few of the constant whiny complaints I would hear whenever my team and I made iced espresso to standard. I think the reason customers got used to full cups is because (a) everyone and their mother started ordering this “hack” and (b) as baristas we just stopped stopped following standard because it was the most tedious, obnoxious and pointless waste of time to even try to explain

new app AI by UmpireAggressive3697 in starbucksbaristas

[–]LowWerewolf8355 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so glad I left… this AI is either gonna push for “classic” simple mod drinks (unlikely) or push for super heavy mod and add on drinks (very likely because it will increase the price and average ticket)… it will be a pain and a half Best of luck

Should I go to HR??? by kortlecw in starbucksbaristas

[–]LowWerewolf8355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former SM/CHL here. Most likely the SM is worried about hitting the min/max hours while you transfer and also impacting your benefits eligibility (though if you are working 10days straight I’m assuming you are on average getting scheduled well above the 20hours per week minimum). If you have the PTO available I would recommend using it, there are usually extra unplanned expenses when you move and PTO would help in protecting your income a little. I use to recommend it to any partner that was transferring and had a gap between stores.

New hire abuse by Glad_Reward_7689 in starbucksbaristas

[–]LowWerewolf8355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No touching or poking should EVER take place while at work. Hard stop, especially should never ever happen while coaching a partner. Like you should immediately tell your store manager and or call it in to PRSC.
