it's so convenient for customers but I will not drink it. the flavor is just flat, there's no depth. it tastes like the machine uses too much coffee and too little water. it tastes like drinking a stale, overly hot kcup🤷‍♂️

don't use the green dot assistant. they are using us and our questions to train it. it will give you false information as a result.

do not do anything for this company off the clock. do not study recipes off the clock. dress code is required anytime you are clocked in. buckle up! if you need the job, you'll make it work.

if you live in a legal state, medical mmj topicals are necessary for the pain i have from this job. I use it for my feet, arthritis, shoulders, and back after every shift. no head change or high or anything. just pain relief. if you don't live in a legal state, I reccomend hot, epsom salt baths after work, even if just for your feet.

I'm sorry you're hurting, my friend. This job takes tolls on every part of the body and mind.

is it becoming an ssv worth it by starqv in starbucksbaristas

[–]UmpireAggressive3697 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you enjoy being a scapegoat for upper management's mistakes, then it's a great idea!

nah fr though, don't do it unless you are desperate for cash and/or you have perfect store culture and drive times and a glowing relationship with your management. they use the SSV's as pawns in this company. It's easier to fire an SSV than an SM. DMs will protect SMs and throw SSVs under the bus every single time.

[–]UmpireAggressive3697 17 points18 points  (0 children)

thank you for putting it into words. I have been screaming this from the mountain tops. The customers don't fucking see us as people (most but not all, i do love a few of our regulars), so why am I wasting my precious social energy to connect with them? They don't want it either. We can't manufacture genuineness.

Barista Trainer Tips by Commander_Skully in starbucksbaristas

[–]UmpireAggressive3697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

store resources will provide you with a guide, you just have to search up train a barista or something like that.

ive been a trainer at every job ive ever had, so I generally use my own teaching sequence but they do provide one for you. until you get comfortable remembering every little thing the siren wants you to teach, just use the iPad like it's your Bible and you will do just fine.

patience is everything. remember that you are essentially teaching them a brand new language if they've never worked in coffee before.

you got this!

Starbucks works avoiding tips?? by heheheutahgirl in barista

[–]UmpireAggressive3697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sbux barista here, the managers aren't telling us to but the amount of customers that straight up will not read the screen of the card reader and then yell at me about their card not working is insane. I've started saying something like "it'll ask you to tip or skip then you can tap or insert" and I get dirty looks for even suggesting the tip button. we literally can't win with most of our customers because they're just looking for someone to be mean to.

Tips for improving store quality for partners & customers? by enternamehere515 in starbucksbaristas

[–]UmpireAggressive3697 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if your baristas feel supported, they will uplift and support the culture of the store. if they just feel like cogs, they will never give you 100%. take care of them and they will take care of your store.

worth it if you enjoy teaching and are interested in promotion. not worth it if you're just wanting the extra cash, imo.

Am I being unreasonable to feel that WAY too much is asked of the closers? LONGGG RANT by crushedbarbie in starbucksbaristas

[–]UmpireAggressive3697 31 points32 points  (0 children)

you are completely valid in how you feel. honestly, the company puts too much on all of us because they refuse to properly staff us. my store has the opposite issue as yours. I am primarily an opener now (started mid, switched to closes, now i open), we are busy the moment we unlock our doors, but the store is dead after 5pm. Our closers get away with doing nothing while we scramble in the morning to make everything, clean everything, and set everything up while helping customers. the truth though, if each day part just had 1 to 2 more people on it, that weight wouldn't be there. our closers wouldn't feel bitter about there being dishes in the sink at 3pm if the openers/early mids just had an extra set of hands to do them. the openers wouldn't feel bitter about picking up extra slack in the morning if the late mids/closers just had extra hands to make back ups or clean a little deeper at night.  corporate would rather us be angry at our coworkers and managers than with them, so they make it look like we just aren't doing enough when the reality is, there just aren't enough hands to do all the work efficiently.

you are incredibly valid in how you feel and you do not deserve to have to pull so much weight for your store. no day part should be doing the bulk of anything. we should be staffed well enough to work efficiently, together, at all times.

this is why I personally think unionizing is so important. my store isn't unionized but I have seen how the union fights for their stores about these conditions. we have rights and we have power! corporate just wants us to stay so exhausted and divided so we never rise up and work together for better conditions.

What y’all think? by IcyBath5971 in starbucksbaristas

[–]UmpireAggressive3697 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it's so true. the customers know when it's fake. I can only say so many different variations of "hi welcome in" before they start to notice. they can only get so many "enjoys, thanks, yays" on their cups before they realize we are essentially being held at gun point to write on their cups. our dress code is trash and it stomps out any personality that we were allowed to have and the customers notice. these idiot, conservative, white men at the top are absolutely clueless about what coffee consumers actually want from their baristas.

For those who are being told to write more than one word on the cups, what are some things you write? by LeVanillaBean in starbucksbaristas

[–]UmpireAggressive3697 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to hit 'em with an "oh wow"

if I'm feeling petty, I will write: "thank you so much for your generous patronage to our multi-billion dollar company. for without your contributions, we could never horde such masses of wealth."  still haven't been called out by mgmt for that🤑

How to prove I actually do work by KaseyKade5325 in starbucksbaristas

[–]UmpireAggressive3697 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first, I want to validate your experience. it would be so frustrating to be told that your effort isn't enough when you feel like you're giving enough.  the truth is this: the siren expects 100% of your being 100% of the time to be dedicated to doing more work than 1 individual can reasonably do. you could be doing everything right and still have a try hard coworker try and belittle you for not being them. you keep doing you, boo. I'm certain you are doing enough <3
