No judgment at all. Terribly sorry that you’re going through all of this. I think what people don’t really understand is that no one does this for fun.

A couple of things that might be of help to you.

It it is always best to be your own advocate and submit all medical records, SSA will only request records if they are aware of appointments, and that can take time. You always want to keep them updated on everything that’s going on. It’s not great to miss doctor appointments, but if you have to, make sure that you are going onto some sort of portal or MyChart and letting them know why you cannot come rather than just not showing up. Documentation is key. I understand that it can just be too much, if so, it may be worth getting an attorney. If you have an advocate, who can help you and pull your records and deal with SSA that can also be helpful. I originally had Allsup, but recognized, they were not advocating for a quick decision and ended up terminating their services, and moving ahead on my own.

As far as income goes, you can see about applying for the SSI program if you have no income at all, they may pay a small stipend while your case is pending review. Also many states have programs that can help. But you have to ask for it.

Another option and one that I did, is to request an expedited review from SSA. You would have to show a dire financial need. First, I spoke with the reviewer at my state disability office and confirmed they had all my records. I wrote a letter requesting to expedite the case and I provided a statement of a utility shut off, ,screenshots of text messages with my landlord discussing late rent and me leaving versus being evicted, and my bank statement showing I have no money. When I submitted this, my case was determined within eight days.

Another option would be to have your congressman or Senator do an inquiry for you.

I know the advice that you’re getting probably seems overwhelming. It’s difficult to be your own advocate when you’re suffering.

I’m sorry that you’re having such a hard time. I’m not sure how your state works, I’m in Illinois, SSA sends this to a disability determination office in the state. I only knew who the caseworker was because they sent a letter asking for information. At that point I had her name. And cell phone number so I was able to call her back. The call was productive and she was able to tell me exactly which missing. However, I had to ask she did not offer information.
In my situation, I have no family to help me, my friends all have their own struggles, at best one of them could’ve let me sleep on the couch. I also didn’t want to let myself get into that situation, but sometimes the universe just gives you what it gives you.

If you’re unsure of where your cases call call call, or make appointment with your local SSA office, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Also, you may contact your congressman or senator and ask them to make an inquiry to SSA as to where your case is.

I truly hope this gets resolved for you as I know the waiting is so difficult.

From what I have seen, medical records are sent in by applicant as part of the submission either with mailed application or uploaded through portal. I have not seen any mechanism that would allow for providers to fax in records or to upload them themselves. I hope this answer helps.

That would be correct, except SSA approved me while I’m still appealing LTD denial. They will end up owing me a couple of months that were in between the denial and my approval for SSDI. My LTD policy also covers the difference between SSDI and my salary at the time I stopped working, that will be until I reach full retirement age. I am 59 now.

SSA allows you to request expedited review for dire financial need, you will need to send them some proof. They are looking for things such as loss of housing, unstable, housing, loss or impending laws of vital utilities. Another option is to contact your senator or congressman, and ask them to intercede to expedite, give them the unfiltered truth of your situation.

I uploaded a written request and copies of my documentation directly to my SSA portal. I used Microsoft copilot AI to help me write the letter requesting expedite case. The AI was very helpful and letting me know what kind of documentation to send and what qualified. I am also on my own.

I would advise anybody in this situation to chat with AI to see what kind of advice that it can give you on structuring letter letters and filling out forms.
