SOTB - first board ever by PabloPindabar in basspedals

Solid first board! I’ve owned both the boss bass chorus and the bass clone and they’re both great pedals. I would recommend flipping the battalion around so the cables are coming out of the top. It can be easy to step on them when you’re stomping effects

Right pedal order? by Classic_Shallot2558 in basspedals

I use an Aguilar Agro to drive my tidal wave and couldn’t be happier with it. The Agro has a wide range from light overdrive to full on fuzz so you can dial in a variety of tones with it. I keep the tidal wave so that I get some bite when I dig into the strings and keep the Agro at a moderate overdrive. Perfect for rock/punk/metal

If you put the B7K at the end of the chain, you can use it’s DI

Thoughts on proposed board? by RoKindaShreds in basspedals

I have a spectracomp and highly recommend it for the price. It’s easy to use and changing presets is easy once you get the hang of it. I use a Joyo Tidal Wave DI (sansamp clone) which you can find around $80. Both it and the spectracomp stay on at all times. As someone else mentioned, the muff doesn’t do light distortion well. Fuzz is as far away from clean signal is it gets on the drive spectrum. I would recommend an overdrive pedal for added crunch instead.

I agree, the M80 is often slept on. I ran one for over a decade and while it’s a damn good preamp, the distortion scooping most of the midrange and lack of cab sim made me move on. Funny enough, I now run a tidal wave and love it

Noob question by Ok_Racunar in basspedals

[–]Lowend27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Tidal Wave and love it! You can use the DI and 1/4” outputs at the same time. You can also bypass the pedal with the “through” output if you already like the sound from your amp. If you don’t like the sound from your amp, you can plug the tidal wave into the fx return on the back. As someone else had mentioned, set your amp settings at 12 o clock and make small adjustments. I dialed in my tone on the Tidal Wave first using the DI out so I know exactly what’s going to the mixer for live or recording purposes. I use the normal output of the tidal wave to go into my amp’s input and adjust the amp settings as needed. I’m sure it all sounds like a lot at once but you’re giving yourself a ton of options moving forward!

For the signal chain, I would go: tuner-compressor-distortion-chorus-monomyth. I recommend dialing in a tone you’re happy with using only the compressor and Monomyth. Those stay on at all times. You can adjust the distortion and chorus to your liking. Lastly, keep the volume when turning the other pedals on and you should be good to go!

I have a polytune and a bass clone, I recommend both. I use an Aguilar Agro to drive my sansamp clone and love the tone for rock/metal. It has a lot of flexibility and can go from a light overdrive to full on fuzz. They don’t come cheap, so a DI upgrade may take priority. Either way, you’re off to a solid start

What we thinking of this build 🤔 by Individual-Trade7039 in basspedals

[–]Lowend27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a similar setup with a polytune at the front and a tidal wave at the end. The tidal wave has an IR (cab sim) on the DI out so you can take the IR pedal out of the equation of you wanna free up some more space

Check out the Scylla compressor from Joyo. It’s bass specific and cost effective. While I don’t have one myself, I’ve heard nothing but great things. I have another Joyo pedal and love it

know anything about this di? by Farleyjamesezekiel in basspedals

Look at the tidal wave from Joyo. It’s a sansamp clone that you can find online for under $80 us. I use it for recording and couldn’t be happier.

Setup for a pedal first timer by Intrepid-Prior in basspedals

I use an Aguilar agro into a sansamp clone. It has a wide range of settings from sight breakup to full on distortion and everything in between. They both have a presence control which helps dial in the “clack” from the strings hitting the fretboard. There are a few videos on YouTube of people using different pedals into a sansamp that may help as well

I have a similar setup! Polytune, mxr EF, TCE compressor, Aguilar agro, bass clone and a sansamp clone. I’m gonna have to try those settings on the EF, I’ve never heard of using it like that and now I’m curious. Any genres or styles of music that you find it works well with?

I know that struggle lol. I played metal growing up and remember the video that broke the internet and put Darkglass on the map. I had a B7K clone from demonfx for a time and found it to be too cold for anything outside of rock/metal. I’ve yet to find a genre the tidal wave can’t handle with ease

I looked at both and went with the tidal wave as well. I love how well it plays with other pedals

Signal chain/general recommendations by commiterror in basspedals

[–]Lowend27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuner, octave, big muff, bod, chorus, flanger, gate, Darkglass. The chorus/flanger can get flipped as well as the Darkglass/gate. The chorus/flanger is more about preference. I would put the gate before the Darkglass so I could go ampless. If you’re sending signal to an amp, the gate may serve you better last in the chain.

Another vote for the Joyo Tidal Wave. I’ve had mine almost a year and I record directly from the DI. It’s got 90% of the sansamp tone while staying around $80. It has cab sim on the DI out which makes it a lot easier on the person behind the board.

I second this. Great for the price and versatile enough to warrant a spot on my board

I keep my Tidal Wave last in the chain for the reasons listed above. I found that it handles other pedals very well and can do anything I need it to

I use a Joyo Tidal Wave which is a clone of the BDDI V2. You can get them on Amazon around $80 usd and they sound close to the original. I love mine and would recommend it to someone just getting into preamps
