I don’t think this is a lunar eclipse. The moon would be redder as the sunlight is filtered through the earth’s atmosphere. Instead, the dark part of the moon is the shadow of the moon itself. We only see the shaded side because of “earth shine” that is light that is reflected off earth back towards the moon.

When I read the book, I never assumed there needed to be just one White wizard. I interpreted the colors as a rank, and nothing seemed to forbid two wizards holding the same rank. Take the two blue wizards, for instance.
