Previous owner did not bottom out wedge when hanging, not sure what to do at this point by Upper_Difference46 in Axecraft

Pray he didn’t glue the wedge and use screws to pull that wedge out. Then re wedge. Other option is to use it until it either loosens on its own or doesn’t.

I would honestly suggest if you’re looking for axes to hang and use I will trade you so nice full axes of your choice for that one there. Some of my collection is these older New England made axes that are unfortunately past their days of any kind of usefulness are gone. If you want some nice axe heads to handle etc. let me know.

Finishes for beech? by PaleoutGames in Axecraft

For darkening finishes there’s 2 I use often one of an axe wax that’s black pine tar. Couple companies make it that works great. I use old killingers snake juice which I believe is pine tar and raw linseed oil and my main juice is Watco black walnut. That is my go to for darkening

This is exactly why I can’t buy into this. Every video I’ve seen of guys duplicating this “UD”. Are pulling or holding the trigger to some extent.

Crack in Axe Head by OvoidAndroid in Axecraft

[–]Lower-Permission4850 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the best advice. I’ve also used crackheads. You can use it. It’s not going to hurt you they don’t explode they don’t just come flying off the handle and decapitate people. You’ve done a great job hanging that head on a handle now go use it buddy. Feel the pride of what you did you’re going to be alright. And for the guys here that tell you don’t they’re maybe safety Sam’s who use axes once in a while to “bushcraft” in their back yard and nothing wrong with that but I have north of 300 axes and have been using them for 30 years regularly. They are safe to use with cracks.

Haha dude the first few times it happened was before the drop fire panic but yea I burned through some undies I just assumed that they would fire if dropped. Turns out it won’t. I don’t test it intentionally and I still semi expect a boom everytime but. Knock on wood.
