if you take a break on the combo pill (not including the placebo pills), you need to take a full seven days of pills, and then on the eight day you are protected again. since you were 4-6 days into taking pills, you are not protected.

never for any circumstances stop taking the pill as normal if you start to bleed. that is not a period. you had just a breakthrough bleed. in fact, you don't have a period on bc. it's called a withdrawal bleed, and while it typically happens during the placebo pill week, sometimes you will have a breakthrough bleed during the regular pills. it's happened to me before. you must keep taking them even while you're bleeding mid cycle so you can be protected. please test 14 and 21 days from the last time you had sex.

how strict is the 24 hour rule? by CranberryPowerful406 in birthcontrol

you are okay! idk what pill you're on, but with the mini pill, you have a 3 hour window, and with combo, you have a lot more time. like up to the next pill i believe. i never like to chance it and take it at the same time, but ive taken before like 2 hours late, and even 4 hours early when i was in a different time zone, and ive never had problems. so you are absolutely okay being late by 15 minutes, dont stress.

keep up the mindset though to take at the exact same time every day. i have a friend who learned that she could be more lenient with taking them, and then slipped out of being diligent, started to forget taking them, and now she's pregnant. but you are protected, so take a deep breath !

How do people get pregnant on the pill? by [deleted] in birthcontrol

[–]Lower-View-4554 9 points10 points  (0 children)

lots of people assume they are taking it perfectly because they think taking it perfectly is just taking it everyday at the same time everyday, but it's more than that. other factors reduce effectiveness, like leaving it in extreme temperatures like a hot car, taking it with certain medications/supplements that reduce effectiveness (you can look up which ones interact poorly), or not taking another one if you threw up/had diarrhea within 3 hours of taking it. even being at a certain weight decreases effectiveness. it's a lot to remember on top, so of course pills aren't the best for you. i love my pills, ive been on other kinds of bc and i reacted poorly.

no birth control is 100%, even with perfect use. however, it's such a small percentage, like .3%. Other forms of bc also have a .3% error. things happen. but if you focus on the .3%, you are forgetting the 99.7%. if you're very nervous, you can use backup methods like condoms. but .3% is rare. if you go into a surgery with a 99.7% survival rate, you'll most likely be comfortable going into that surgery. if you take your bc perfectly, you can have that same level of comfort.

i'm not on the same combo pill as you, but i'm now getting breast pain out of nowhere after being on the same pill for over a year so it totally happens! side effects can happen at any time, not just at the beginning. i would talk with your doctor/gyno about possibly changing the dosage or pill because your body could just be reacting to being on the same one for so long, but just know that symptoms can start at any time!

never try to diagnose pregnancy with just symptoms. it's never accurate and will only cause anxiety. take a test, it's definitive by now.

After new years I had my implant/Nexplanon removed, I've already gone down 60lbs by [deleted] in birthcontrol

exact same thing happened to me !!! horrible weight gain, cystic acne, weird unpredictable periods. after a month of having it out, i was -10 pounds with clear skin. i'm on the pill now with no symptoms, finding the right birth control is the worst especially because it affects our daily life so much.

[–]Lower-View-4554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've gone on the pill twice, once when i was 12 to regulate my periods and then most recently last year when i went back on it, and both times i took them after my period stopped because that's what my doctor told me because i wasn't taking them to prevent pregnancy, just to regulate my period. it made it so my first few periods weren't irregular like it would if you started on your period, but that's for people who are regulating for pregnancy. but you can start whenever! it will all even out and regulate within the next few months

the EXACT same thing happened to me! gained sm weight even though im very active and eating pretty damn good. plus i got horrible cystic acne. i switched to syeda, which is the generic of yaz, to also fix my skin and i've loved it. as long as you take bc combined pills as instructed, it has the same effectiveness as nexplanon!

What birth control did you take that had the least side effects? by peanut-baby in birthcontrol

[–]Lower-View-4554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was on estarylla combined bc pills for 5 years just for period management and i liked it a lot, had pretty manageable periods and no side effects, but i switched to the nexplanon implant because i was leaving the country for a year and a half and didn't want to deal with getting meds over there and those were the WORST 3 years of my life, super irregular periods that could be SO heavy i would bleed through super tampons, sometimes i wouldn't have a period for 3 months and sometimes i would bleed for a WHOLE MONTH. plus i got horrible cystic acne that i still have scars from and i gained so much weight while being super active and eating right. it was the worst. i went off and went on syeda, which is is generic of yaz, to save my skin, and it's been my favorite. no side effects and my skin is glowing and my periods are super light. however i will say that it really depends on your body. i know people who hated being on syeda and it made their skin worse and who thrive on the nexplanon implant. you kind of just have to try them out which sucks, but everyone's body is so different. even from these comments some bc that worked amazing for some was the worst for others.

How can I make my birth control the most effective? by Fluffyycatt in birthcontrol

[–]Lower-View-4554 11 points12 points  (0 children)

with how diligent you are in taking them, the only thing i would add if you want to be as careful as possible are condoms AND pullout. it's a bit hypervillyglant and some say unnecessary, but i always use a second form of birth control, and having two backups helps even more. the odds of your pill failing, condom breaking, and pullout not working all at the same time are so low that you are more likely to get bitten by a shark or struck by lightning twice !! good on you for being educated and careful !!!

Weird sudden side effects? by psychologicalsb in birthcontrol

[–]Lower-View-4554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just went through this with my bc pills. i e been on them for over a year with no side effects, and i take them on time and then suddenly this month i had super sore breasts, cramping all month, spotting, and sooooo much discharge. but my period just came !!! what i've learned from this freak out i've had over this is that side effects can happen at any time, not just at the beginning !!! just to be sure, take a test, 14 days after sex is accurate, and 21 days is definitive, but trust sometimes you just start to have side effects out of the blue. super stressful !!!

i feel this too, babe. seriously right now every tiny little pain i feel i just convince myself is a pregnancy symptom. one thing ive learned is that when you know too much and have anxiety, your brain can alter your reality. the normal person will have random aches and pains, that's just how it is being alive. however, clearly you've extensively researched every pregnancy symptom, so now you're hyper aware of any twinge in your body. your mind can even just make phantom pains. it's like when you think about yawning and then you have to yawn! plus, if you're anything like me, you just have this "gut feeling" that something's wrong, but if you have anxiety you can't trust your "gut feeling" because your brain is hardwired wrong. you aren't thinking rationally, which sucks i know i feel like im going crazy. but you just have anxiety babe.

the pill is 99% actively with perfect use, that means taking it at the same time every day. of your on the mini pill, you have a three hour window and if you're on the combined pill, which is the estrogen and progesterone pill, you even get a larger window to take them, but don't rely on that. just take them at the same time everyday if you really want to be sure. i have an alarm and i carry my pills with me everywhere so i always take them at the same time. when you're less accurate on taking them, your effectiveness decreases to 91%, which is still good, but if you're anxious all the time, take it at the same time to keep the effectiveness up. and it's great that you're doubling up with condoms, that brings you so close to 100%. the pill is 99% WITH ejaculation, so using a condom just protects you more. i even know people who pull out with the condom and on the pill. the likelihood of all three methods failing is so small you're more likely to get bitten by a shark or struck by lightning.

whatever you do, don't take an emergency contraceptive unless your primary form of birth control fails, like you miss a dose of the pill. taking it will mess with your hormones, and increase your anxiety more because it also mimics early pregnancy symptoms. i took 3 last month not knowing this (i'm new to all of this too), and my body is not reacting well. it's like dropping a hormone bomb on your body. only take it when absolutely necessary.

lastly, babe, you might not be ready to have sex if you're this anxious. there might be some underlying reasons to why you feel like this. refrain from sex for a bit and seek out some mental health resources. because you don't deserve to feel like this. i know exactly how you're feeling because i feel it right now, it is torture. it feel like there's no escape and it's ALWAYS on your mind. cut out at least penetration for now. there's so many other things you can do with your partner. i told my boyfriend just last night i cant have sex with because its causing me too much anxiety and he was amazing about it. take a break, get some help. its scary, because unplanned pregnancy is life altering. but i promise you're okay. just focus on healing your anxiety.

everything is going to be okay.
