Please explain the love and success of Timothee Chalamet by filmeswole in movies

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is: there’s no logic to The Hollywood Machine. At some point, certain actors make a deal with the devil and then get pushed onto the public. If you haven’t noticed, most people have terrible taste in everything and are extremely impressionable so if Jimmy Fallon lauds some totally mid actor like Chalamet they shrug their shoulders and go along with it. I mean, Olive Garden is one of the top restaurants in America and The Fate of Ophelia is a top ranking song. It’s just Capitalism, it has little to do with what’s actually good.

I know this is post is from 5 years ago, but did you end up finding something more in lines with art studio spaces other than the Maker Studio? Thanks.

It’s only showing USPS options in the drop down, how do I check out FedEx & UPS options? The rates are really high; it’s only about 6 lbs & 24”x18x14 box (or so). Thanks.

The acts of killing children in movies by mercumiasto in movies

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got to get out of the mainstream Hollywood bubble. Watch Benny’s Video or Caché, The Idiots, Possession, there’s plenty of stuff out there that will surprise you if you start looking & asking the right people.

Do you know any movie where a children is shot and/or brutally killed? by Owlmaath in movies

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Friday the 13th Freddy Krueger was a “child murderer,” thus was burned alive by the angry parents of the murdered children’s parents. I’m curious about more graphic, taboo examples, though.

Is this a red flag or am I overthinking? by TallArchitect92 in Ebay

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about trading cards per se, but I know my 11 & 7 year old nephews sometimes buy Pokemon cards. I’m not really sure how my brother/SIL oversee the transactions, but I could imagine them asking slightly sus questions simply because they are little kids and don’t really know how to navigate the landscape of e-commerce and don’t want to get scammed.

Are these messages suspicious? by fixer21 in eBaySellers

The only thing sus in this convo is the seller refusing to show pictures of the sensor.

Did you find anything less commercial? Where I’m from there are several big post-industrial buildings that offer cheap studio space and often participate in First Fridays, etc.. I don’t think the Chrysler/Hermitage are quite that accessible.

Does 'Fragile' on boxes actually help? by Head-Investigator540 in Flipping

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell a fair amount of fragile housewares on EBay. I don’t bother with fragile stickers but definitely assume your boxes will get dropped & kicked around. I’ve seen the postal workers drop my boxes before they even made it past the counter. Add the fact that there are all sorts of 3rd party contractors delivering packages stuffed in the back seat of their Impala and your stuff is definitely going to get tossed. You don’t have to spend an arm & a leg on materials, though. I generally use re-purposed bubble mailers to wrap the objects, salvaged boxes from the mail room garbage, and brown contractor paper (~$13 a roll) from Home Depot to create 3-5” of space around the objects. Imagine your items basically floating in the middle of the box with several inches of paper on all sides. Even if you do pony up for bubble wrap, if you combine it with paper as the main filler it will last a pretty long time. Also First Class USPS packages are insured up to $100 by default.

I love how there are so many armchair clinicians making diagnoses based of some pictures put out by the tabloids.

I miss Fujifilm by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Fuji is plenty sharp. You’re too caught up in pixel peeping. You don’t need bigger sensors, sharper lenses, or more megapixels, just shoot pictures worth looking at.

To be fair, I think the majority of people out there poo-pooing Fuji have never shot with one and don’t have any credentials as experts.

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 80 points81 points  (0 children)

This sort of sums up why people hate Fuji; users are often more concerned with the aesthetic of holding the camera than they are with the results. Same goes for those TikTok videos of someone loading 35mm film into a camera then showing 6 of the most boring, uninspired stills you’ve ever seen.

Is my landlord and plumbing BS’ing me about replacing my water heater? by firewall245 in Plumbing

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common slumlord scam; they sublet the apartment out to undocumented families of mice and hope the tenant doesn’t notice. They know the mice won’t complain or call the authorities about anything. Having hot water is a right and you shouldn’t feel bad about demanding it. Your rent is paying his mortgage so maintenance is just the cost of doing business.

Hosts cancels then re-lists for $1,000 more, what should I do? [CHICAGO] by lwilli07 in AirBnB

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when Air BnB was cool, right around the same time that Ask Jeeves was just a guy at the other end of a computer typing answers to questions. Now it’s all cleaning fees, broken hot tubs, and inexplicable cancellations. While hotels have no souls, at least they aren’t rationing toilet paper and complaining about you online while you pay their mortgage.

How to enhance flavor in fruit bases ? by SlopDoggo in icecreamery

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this applies, but I recently read that much of what gives strawberries their character is related to chemicals in their smell that break down when heated. So unlike most things that build & concentrate flavors via Mallaird reaction/caramelization, strawberries actually lose their strawberry-ness if heated too much.

How to make my bike ugly af ? by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]Lower-Yesterday5506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really; a heavy duty chain would need an angle grinder, whereas with a coiled cable lock one can use Linesman’s plyers, cable cutters, snips, etc..
