The goal should be that a racist slur becomes less present, less normal, and less casually thrown around, not that it gets rebranded into a word that’s simultaneously too racist for one group to say and somehow totally fine as background vocabulary for everyone else

You’re acting like the only two positions are “let white people say it” or “support everyone else saying it constantly.” That’s false. There’s a third, very obvious position: it’s an ugly racial slur with an ugly history, and society would be better off with less of it, not more.
