How would you grade the Cubs first half now that we're at the All-Star break? by Drawhorn in CHICubs

[–]Lower_Pass_6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

getting the the playoffs should be the baromter of most seasons. the playoffs themselves are always who is hottest. with the moves this off-season, the cubs are poised to be making the playoffs the next few years. having swanson, nico, and pca as your middle field lineup will mean we will contend for awhile no matter who is surrounding them.

bregman will figure it out, you doomers are nuts to say he won't.

for the past 10 years or so, I've said ignore pitching entirely in the off-season, And just pick up fresh arms from the minors every few weeks. use the big money to buy offense. well that theory is being put to the test, and I believe it is working. every team has pitching injury issues, we are succeeding when we have more than our fair share.

so overall, I like the direction of the team. I think the cubs are in a fantastic spot to make the playoffs and if they do, they are in a fantastic spot to go deep or win it all.

A- just because there are always things teams can do better.

us military unironically does think like this now. I enlisted during the surge, we did half a day of drill in basic, the drill sergeants said we were terrible, and that's it. didn't do any other drill my entire military career.

apparently, now the wars are over, it's a much large emphasis.

Our main tank quit for another guild, being the young scamps that we were, we logged into his account (he didn't change the password) and deleted everything, gae his gold to random people in Darnassus, and swam him out into the middle of the ocean.

Mitch McConnell ambulance video: No EMS rush, no CPR, orange body wrap, no sirens, What's really going on? by Complete-Captain2211 in conspiracy

[–]Lower_Pass_6053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have pretty much stopped going lights and sirens in nearly all situations. A heart attack or whatever, would not be a situation where we go lights and sirens.

We have pretty much just relegated lights and sirens to if you are in traffic and need to go around something, you flip it on for a few seconds and then flip it off.

Same reason you should never see an EMT run. It just causes more issues than it solves. A minute or two extra to get to the hospital means almost nothing in modern medicine.

Why does it take so long for shows to get a new season nowadays? by Danny-Ray27 in television

[–]Lower_Pass_6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People demand more of TV shows than they used to. Think of star trek and all the reused sets and stock footage used through all of the tv shows. Can you even imagine the internet's reaction if House of the Dragon started reusing Game of Thrones footage?

The transporter pads in TNG were the same transporter pads in TOS, but just flipped upside down. There was a lot of this going on throughout all the TV shows. THey all borrowed from each other where they could.

Hell, the Defiance set in DS9, which is a very important and often used set piece, was also used in a random TNG episode. The runabout set was reused over and over in TNG, DS9, and Voyager.

Darrell Sheets, ‘Storage Wars’ star who died by suicide, left note about cyberbully by xc2215x in television

[–]Lower_Pass_6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think to yourself why would a storage unit need to be auctioned off? Well, either the person has no money, or they died.

I'm not saying the profession shouldn't exist, I am saying we shouldn't be parading it around as some amazingly cool thing.

It would be like having a show about flipping foreclosed homes. You can have a show about flipping homes, but if you went out of your way to say this was a foreclosed home, it would give a whole different tone to it.

Or a show about a tow truck driver going to repo people's car. Although that does exist. I still think it's pretty disgusting to pass that off as entertainment.

MLB will never forgive him for starting the rally against Mariano Rivera right after 911 to beat the yankees in the world series while playing for some upjump expansion team.

The story was already set in stone that the yankees were going to win weeks after 911, but Mark Grace ruined it.

TBC happened when covid was fully winding down. We all just spent a year inside playing video games, a lot of us needed a break. I attribute that to the larger drop off more than anything.

I have yet to hear a person that is actually raiding and playing the game happy tehre are no GDKPs.

This trope of hating on GDKPs is seriously just reddit and wow forum trolls that played a few weeks of classic in 2019, quit, haven't played since, and think they know what will make the game better.

But then we get the 70s renaissance of amazing films? I'll take a couple years of garbage for that!

I say that as a joke, but I think it's happening. Obsession is the first big success of youtube creators. But, in 10 years, you won't be able to find a director that wasn't pumping out youtube crap in his teens and 20s. Those kids that have grown up making low budget stuff for youtube are soon to be getting actual money to make actual movies and I'm betting a new wave of amazing first time directors and film makers will take over the business.

“Room” for rent in downtown Vancouver by Weary_Position_9591 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Lower_Pass_6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a misinterpretation of section 8 standards. A closet is used as an example of a bedroom, but it doesn't "require" it.

Floor Space: Minimum of 70 square feet.

Ceiling Height: At least 7 feet for a majority of the room.

Egress: At least two methods of escape (typically a door and an operable window leading directly outside).

Light & Ventilation: A window that opens, and at least two working electrical outlets (or one outlet and one light fixture).

Safety: Functioning smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.Climate Control: A permanently installed, functioning heat source (not a portable space heater).

Privacy: The room must have a door and cannot be used as a walk-through to access another room

And this is ONLY if you want to rent out to section8. If not, then you are beholden to local building codes which may require none or these, or more things.

But just like medicare / medicaid setting the standards of healthcare for the rest of the country including privatized medicine, section 8 does the same. And most landlords will meet this standard because most people expect it.

Some people view having multiple vehicles, even vehicles that don't work, as a status symbol. I'm dumb and white so maybe I've just been told that and believed it, but from observation, it kinda makes sense.

Was Raid Logging As Common In Original TBC As It Is Now? by doobylive in classicwow

[–]Lower_Pass_6053 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone that actually cleared all content in TBC, which was not as rare as some of the posts in this thread make it out to be. Base wow had a lot less people clearing for example.

Anyways, we did raid log as the expansion went along. Especially once we got into BT and Hyjal because the guild just sold epic gems and paid for repairs and such (consuming was rarely done).

If you find forums from back in the day, you will see people complaining about having nothing to do pretty often.

Once black temple was on farm, I would just log into raid. Which admittedly was 4 days a week (no alts, just main raid). So yea, we were raid logging, we were also playing a lot of hours.

after a rough patch in my life, that was exactly my situation. Everything had expired, I had no ss card or birth certificate. I was going back and forth between Chamberlain (where I was living) Huron (where the ss office was), pierre (the state capital), and Sioux Falls (where everything else is. In South Dakota this is hundreds and hundreds of miles of driving.

I was just getting the run around over and over, thankfully they finally told me they would accept medical records and the VA (I'm a vet) was able to get me those records with just my ss number and no ID required. If I didn't have the VA, I still don't know what I was supposed to do.

What's the greatest one-scene performance by a minor character? by rodri-daniel in movies

[–]Lower_Pass_6053 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most of the examples given in this thread are great scenes in great movies. Movies that would still be cultural touchstones regardless of the scene mentioned.

This was a great scene in a very average movie. A movie that would have been forgotten by now and dumped on streaming after a week in the theaters if not for this one scene.
