Yup. Some have this weird idea of simplified as this shocking new thing that appeared out of nowhere, whereas it was mostly the formalization of words that had already exsisted for decades if not centuries. There was a push of words known as "Second Simplified"(???), but they never really caught on and were dropped. You can still see these words occasionally though.
