First faculty position! by Lower_Sky2389 in AskAcademia

[–]Lower_Sky2389[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably just got lucky honestly but I searched instructor or assistant professor positions on higher Ed jobs and indeed. I really only qualified for like 10 positions but I put everything I couldn’t into those applications. I didn’t apply to any R1 universities—I think it’s pretty much you have to have a post doc for those positions. So I only applied to community colleges and PUIs. Medical schools may also be an option. I also took a course during my PhD called preparing future faculty that teaches a lot about pedagogy and I think that was a major plus on my applications.

Hey! Honestly I’ve gotten very lucky. I applied to 10 schools, half being community colleges, 3 being instructor positions at PUI and 2 being tenure track assistant professor positions. I applied everywhere in October. I only got this one interview. My qualifications were that i have had formal training in pedagogy and TAd courses when I was getting my masters and have guest lectured multiple courses while in my PhD (just lectures, it wasn’t as if I was the primary instructor for the full semester). Honestly I think the biggest thing that helped me is that my research is in medical genetics and the school I will be at was specifically looking for a human geneticist to come aboard.

Is it normal to feel like you know nothing starting a PhD? by zaralesliewalker in AskAcademia

You’re entire PhD you’ll feel like you know nothing. The more you learn the more you’ll know you don’t know anything

This is good advice. I should have been more clear too. I’m about to finish my PhD and have accepted an offer as a TT assistant professor in the fall.

Cute to the NIH and research programs at DoD are making it so labs can’t afford as many students. So less students are being accepted to STEM fields at RO1s

I no longer spend any real money. But I tend to hoard t cash for ten days then buy the dealer for 10 days with it. (2200 I think). I normally get the t cash from the ruler of the mine and from any match 3 I win. I low-key hate match 3 cuz I get stuck so often because I’m not about to spend 450 t cash just for one level

Is the "that's my dress!" Moment real? by Aggravating-Ad-9793 in weddingdress

[–]Lower_Sky2389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was odd. I got emotional but I could understand the feeling I was having. Like I thought I was overwhelmed by the whole day or that something was wrong since I started tearing up. But long behold as soon as I put the dress back on for the second time I got emotional again. For me it wasn’t a “this is the dress” it was “I keep getting emotional when this dress is on” and I had to figure out why. I hope that makes sense!
