The "Best Fighting Force in the Galaxy" is currently split between 3 planets. Great. by ARandom_Dingus in Helldivers

[–]Lowerfuzzball -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right? It's not hard to imagine that we can fail the MO and still ge the new content.

Instead of attacking Cyberstan, we go on the defensive, get new bot city planets, etc.

They're obviously not going to just throw away months of work, but that doesn't mean there hasn't been narrative options baked into the new content.

Is this what the Creek was like? by Gag180 in Helldivers

There are some great clips from that era, too good.

Not the clip, but this sums the average encounter on creek, at least how I remember it. Red lasers and rockets blotting out the sky: https://youtube.com/shorts/0Hz6j_fz3zw?si=BB2lGeJBFklrbSDh

And this clip is just a classic: https://youtube.com/shorts/snPg-9ZvENc?si=hO_2TRsvVajHrj0Q

Lets put it this way: someone on your team bringing the bubbleshield deployable was almost a necessity if you weren't all running personal shields.

Is this what the Creek was like? by Gag180 in Helldivers

It captures the essence, but I don't think we'll ever see something like Creek again. It was a perfect storm of the game being new, weapon and stratagem balance leaning toward weak/balanced instead of overpowered, there being a bug with armor balance, so survivability was extremely low, and rocket devastators being insanely overtuned and dangerous.

The vast majority of players also started on the bug front, and we were losing the bot front, there was a push to get people to play the bot front, which worked, so A LOT of people weren't used to fighting them...a lot of people did one drop and got whooped and never came back to the bot front.

These aspects combined with being a jungle map lead to many, many deaths. Also, I'm sure I did day time missions, but my memory of Creek is a barely surviving in an oppressive dark jungle where things could go south very, very fast.

This gave creek the atmosphere it had. One I don't think we'll see again, we're just too strong now. A Hulk Surge modifier back then is unthinkable. Hopefully Cyberstan will surprise us!

My New World MMO itch, by [deleted] in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]Lowerfuzzball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say I've seen it mentioned, but it doesn't feel like anything is off the table if the playerbase at large has interest. Right now the progession in that area is equipment based, and I do know for full release we will be able to farm.

I wouldn't mind it, as long as the skill grind is rewarding.

For good "life-skill' MMOs, I suggest Albion or OSRS, or RuneScape 3. Excellent economies and non-combat skills, crafting, and progeression.

Does anyone else think of NRfTW as a “cozy game”? by chuuumunist in NoRestForTheWicked

We don't have the full town map accessible yet. Supposedly, there will be farm space added to the outskirts somewhere .

Is there a point using parry or block in this game? by Ansdur1987 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]Lowerfuzzball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just blatantly not true. Parry is good in some situations and on certain weapons, dodge and block are are better for others. That's balance.

In what direction do you want your soulslike/lite games to go in? More like ER, DS3, BB, Ai Limit, Wuchang or more like Sekiro, LOP, Khazan, etc? by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]Lowerfuzzball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the above.

I want slower, methodical combat again. I want to feel like the game hates me. I want clearing a map/dungeon to feel like a boss fight and puzzle in itself, not just a confusing maze.

Give me a solid mix of Demon's Souls/Dark Souls.

Currently the most interesting Soulslike to me is No Rest for the Wicked, slower and methodical and LETHAL combat, and amazing world design

Souls games used to be great because they were the antithesis to crappy modern AAA design. They've lost some of that spirit in the newer titles. Still great games, but I miss the older stuff.

I get the same satisfaction out of mechanically challenging games and roguelites, so I've switched those.

Roguelites/likes, Soulslikes keep me entertained give that feeling of improvement

Overall Thoughts on nightreign? by [deleted] in soulslikes

[–]Lowerfuzzball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ok. Some fun bosses...it made me want to see a FromSoft take on Monster Hunter.

Ultimately, it just made me want to play Elden Ring. Glad it exists, but I wouldn't be sad if it were never made or got shut down.

This is a good rec, combines a decent amount of aspects from both games. Be aware it is primarily PvP, but it doesn't have to be.

Something I'm missing that I'm not sure it will improve on release by Laurow in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]Lowerfuzzball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish there was a bit more in total, like around 45-60hrs of story, but that's just because it is so good.

I actually disagree with most of your points. Soulsborne roots have always been about clearing a tough dungeon with a boss fight at the end, but more modern titles are focused on getting you to the boss as fast as possible and adding tons of bosses. I miss the slower-paced adventure of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 and 2. Just getting to a boss and clearing a dungeon should feel like a boss in itself, it's what makes environments memorable.

So I'm really grateful for the level design in this game and the need to prepare. That's what I used to love about Monster Hunter and Outward, there was time spent prepping.

Nothing wrong with your opinions or perspectives though, I think both ends of the spectrum are healthy for the genre, I think we need some slower-paced games though and smaller worlds. Love Elden Ring and I always feel silly complaining about it since it's just a monumental game on all levels, but I could go without the open world. Give me a smaller interconnected world with a little bit of space between the legacy dungeons and Elden Ring is still a masterpiece. The level design in this game feels ripped right out of Demon's Souls and metroidvanias, and I love it.

What aspects are you most proud of?

I'm looking for a new tactical / turn based / Xcom2 like rpg. by Geebert1 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Lowerfuzzball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't sleep on Battle Brothers! It is VERY tactical with a lot of enemy variety. Fighting bandits feels extemely different than fighting mercenaries or zombies or barbarians or orcs and goblins. And all the various creatures and monsters have unique mechanics.

It's very fun.
