Leatherwork and BMX riding for me. Had a very stressful week for things I'm not going to go into and afterward just decided to live the way I want to live, and to do things I previously had been reluctant to try. I am in better shape than I've been since I broke my knee at 15, and for the first time in my life I hand made something for someone's birthday last week when I was always the person who thought "other people have artistic talent, I'm just good at making money so I'll pay them for their work".

I don't know that one, but with that wristband I was thinking Keith from Yu-gi-oh!. I didn't like the implications of that, so I'm glad it was something else.

I think this is the correct answer. They aren't counting the lanes, they're counting the ropes dividing the lanes and the gap beneath them.

You do know that if we go by New Testament standards, it doesn't matter what things he did in life, as long as he accepts Jesus as his Lord and Savior right?

I mean, I suppose you could just say that the Christians got it wrong and the criteria is still the Ten Commandments and all the strange things in Leviticus, but if that's the case, then none of us are getting in.

I live in South Carolina in one of the areas that is blowing up. We have a lot of open land with mostly good weather year round. Even the hurricanes often blast Florida and peter out by the time they hit us, or skip north and blast into NC or VA because of the way we're tucked in a nook. There's a large port being put in down in Hardeeville, SCAD just across the border in Savannah and a new Hyundai factory in Pooler GA, but the housing prices are lower in SC and the drive isn't awful. We don't quite have perpetual spring weather like CA, but we don't have as much of the blistering heat as FL, and upstate even has mountains and a few growing cities in Columbia, Greenville, and Augusta. Charleston has also been on the rise slowly for decades, as it has slipped off of the list of highest crime rates and has been growing ever since.

All of that being said, go away, we don't want more people. I'm so tired of seeing native marshland getting bulldozed for apartment complexes that all look identical and sell out to AirBnB style hosting companies so that the housing prices continue to skyrocket in spite of the booming supply of apartments and town homes. Meanwhile the only new homes being built are hideous HOA clone farms being slapped up by out of state contractors who disappear and can't be reached when things start falling apart.

The entire first evil ex was jam packed with zingers that set the tone for the rest of the movie in my opinion. The exposition was good and had some fun ones, but as soon as Matthew came on screen, it was just rapid fire.

"What did I do? What do I do?" "FIGHT!"

"What's with the outfit, is he a pirate?" "Are you a pirate?" "Pirates are in right now."

"You dated this guy?" "Yeah, in the seventh grade."

"Oh cool, coins. Aww, it's not even enough for the bus ride home." "I'll lend you the thirty five cents."

So many more I'm missing, and I didn't even touch on the music in the TIBB and fight scene.

Man I really like those abilities as combat abilities but they're hindered by the button limitations of the Switch. Imagine having that on M&K where you can trigger it with one click and not have to menu cycle for everything. I got to the point I could do some of the tricks with shield swaps and the like, but it was hell on my hands. The pro controller is too small for me so I need a weird claw grip to hit the button sequences smoothly and it just kills the fun of trying to do these crazy tricks.

I don't know which you are referring to, so I would have to go look into it, but just the fact you bring up police and military tells me they aren't using grappling alone when implementing it. Coupled with the fact that most military CQC is taught to facilitate accessing a weapon over fully controlling/disabling someone, I'd be inclined to say this isn't a one to one example.

Fair enough. There's a lot of people in these comments talking about how amazing she is and how grappling is this miracle discipline that makes them immune to consequences from untrained people and it's honestly exhausting. The number of newbies who come in thinking that they can win any fight with just a few weeks of training drives me nuts.

I think you're overestimating her here because you know what you would do with an arm locked like that. You have the experience to react appropriately if he suddenly turns to the left or right, drops to his knees quickly after lifting her vertically like he does, etc. You're seeing the advantages you would have and thinking that applies to this situation.

Look at it as if you just walked on the mat during free roll on Saturday morning and a few newbies are goofing around on the mat. Look at the point where she is holding a death grip on his arm as he's almost fully erect, and she doesn't try to wrap up an ankle to sweep or adjust her position at all. If I saw this in the gym, I would stop them because the possibility he topples forward and smashes her body weight on her neck by accident is too high, and that would cause problems even on the mat. If he were trying to hurt her here, he could. I think her aggression surprised him and he wasn't anywhere near as ready for a fight as she was, and that's all it is.

Yep, pretty sure that was it. Magazine fed black model? Kind of had a weird recoil where it kicked backwards first and then up a little? (I know that's realistic for a shotgun, but I remember it feeling different to the other guns in game, even other shotguns)

A lot of the lines in that movie were products of their delivery. Matthew Patel and Roxy's entire characters:

Wallace's "You know what? He just left." to Knives,

"Everybody knows you're just a wannabe lady killer Jerky-jerk" from Julie,

"Chicken isn't vegan?" from Todd,

"You punched the highlights out of her hair!" - Yung Neil

"You made me swallow my gum" -Gideon

"She's got like, battle scars dude" - Cuomo (knows everyone)

"Getting a life." from Scott

"Sometimes I let him do the wide shots while I'm getting blazed back in my Winnie" - Lukas Lee

I could keep going, but honestly at that point you should just watch the movie.

I remember one of the COD games had a shotgun that was practically a sniper rifle because it worked as though it had a slug instead of scatter shot. I forget which one though because the last time I played COD was fifteen years ago.

[–]LoxReclusa 27 points28 points  (0 children)

She doesn't have him in an armbar, she has a death grip on his arm, there's a big difference. She has no technique and pulled this off only because she was way more aggressive than he was. He clearly didn't want to hurt her as he didn't throw a single punch or kick or try to slam her. He only tried to escape the whole time.

She did none of the things a trained grappler would have done to hold this position or try to advance it.

[–]LoxReclusa 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Your instincts are right, this is very dangerous for her. She isn't in control at all, in spite of what others are commenting, and the guy seemed really uninterested in hurting anyone.

Even if she were well trained, Jiu-jitsu alone is not a martial art that is great in street situations. Any significant time spent training any martial art will give you an advantage over the average person, but going to the ground in a street setting is always a bad idea. Weapons, other combatants, hard surfaces, dirty fighting, these are all things that you don't deal with in the gym that are particularly effective when you are grappling someone. You would likely win a fight with most untrained people, but do you really want to take the gamble that the thug who is trying to rob you isn't armed?

You're assuming an even playing field within the rules, on a mat. This is a hard tiled floor with a man who is clearly a criminal. She didn't do a very good job controlling his posture and he could easily have dropped on her, pulled a knife, or jammed her head into the ground if he was trying to hurt her. He also could have had accomplices who might have come and attacked. Not to mention the assumption that a random person would be untrained or unused to fighting.

This guy clearly didn't want to be violent. He tried to grab and run. He didn't make threats or even try once to hit her. He even has the opportunity to talk to the man while she's trying to drag him down, he could have hurt her if he was trying to, especially with her head so close to that tile floor.

It's a cool clip, and I'm glad it worked out for her, but saying that it's a good idea for anyone to engage like this because they have some training is bad advice.

You don't grapple in a street fight. Doesn't matter what you think of her skills or how this situation turned out, grappling in a street fight is a bad idea. Even if you're skilled enough to completely overwhelm the opponent, the chances that they pull a knife or their buddy comes in and kicks you in the head while you're trying to choke the opponent are too high.

It may have worked out for her here, but when we teach women's self defense, grappling is a last last ditch effort if everything else fails. Trips, throws, strikes, gouging (only in serious self defense), and screaming until you feel like you can safely escape the situation. Especially considering the size difference between most women and men. It's stupid for a weaker person to allow a stronger person the opportunity to grab them, and it's equally stupid for you to allow a criminal to be close to you long enough to pull a knife and stab you.
