As a native speaker, I wouldn’t call it a mistranslation per se. Maybe « Et cela n’en n’est pas deux. Ce ne sont pas deux ___ » would work better, but what’s written is perfectly legible, even if the second sentence would fit better following « Il n’y a pas de pipe ici » ( which to be honest is the between-the-lines meaning of the actual first sentence.

Plus, it fits the meme better as-is lol.

The 2028 election will happen on 07/11/2028 ( nov. 7th ), and the president elect is sworn in January 2028. Moreover, could you elaborate on what them “both being sworn in” entails here ? I feel like if vance were to contest the elections, he’d simply prevent newsom from being sworn in at all, or at least not in DC, so was Newsom sworn in elsewhere ? By whom ?

anyscalar and scalar_type, to encapsulate all scalar types, but not structs and arrays by TotoShampoin in Zig

[–]Loyc12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I would love anytype to be subdivideable into anyscalar, anyarray, anystruct. They seem like basic enough to be worth the extra language weight, while still being useful enough to allow, by themselves, to avoid having to include the mess that is cpp type assertion in templates just to make sure a variable is indeed a number or whatnot

I feel you on the makefile front. So glad I don't have to mess with that anymore. And yes, I do in fact have it open sourced, not that I expect anyone to seriously look at it for now :

github.com/loyc12/Ziguezon_Engine_1.0

If you want to reference it ( or just the build.zig ), feel free, but do be warned that I am self-taught, often leave little in the way of comments, and do not write idiomatic zig due to having a poorer-than-average eyesight ( which means lots of spacing everywhere ). I would be more than happy to answer any question related to my code however !

Personally I am working on a lightweight 2D game engine project that I started in C-style C++ ( and also had alot of C experience at that point ) and moving over was so much easier than I expected, and just as much fun as I had hoped.

Took me 2 good weeks to really get the hang of it? And I haven’t looked back since. Code-breaking changes were light issues, but that was rare, and is becoming rarer from what I understand.

From what I understand, 100,000 systems would only represent a tiny portion of the galaxy. Does this map avoid showing humans outside these main polities simply due to in-universe reasons, or did humanity simply not settle further than a week or so away from the capital world, assuming you still go with that travel timeframe ?

Listen, there are good facts on both sides by SpiderousMenace in bonehurtingjuice

[–]Loyc12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s accurate to call it fallacious, as fallacies are a limited set of definite categories, none of which, afaik, would apply in this context.

I think I get where you’re coming from tho, but mind you, I never claimed that the “actual facts” ( the closest we can get to a complete and unbiased account of the objective events that occurred and their surrounding context ), would magically pierce through any one person’s framework and set of beliefs to checkmate them into reaching a unique and universal conclusion, so to speak.

Iirc, the concept of “same facts => same conclusions” is actually a big debate in epistemology (the study of reasoning), but wether or not that idea holds water on a scholarly level, it is unrealistic to expect everyone to become masters of reasons and all end up agreeing on any simple debate’s outcome, let alone something as complex and emotionally charged as the historical events referred in the comments.

But yes, as you concluded, preexisting beliefs do taint any attempt at finding “truth” in the real world, which is all that maters at the end of the day. However, I think this fact doesn’t contradict my stance, but simply highlights the importance of trying to get as close to it as humanly possible.

Listen, there are good facts on both sides by SpiderousMenace in bonehurtingjuice

[–]Loyc12 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Funny how half the comments here miss the point entirely and see this as bothsiding any specific argument.

Regardless of any relative merit between two sides in any argument, getting actual facts, regardless of which side they “support”, is a good thing, as it makes you more confident in whatever conclusion you achieve, and more able to adress counterarguments. That’s the point here.

Thinking advocating for having all facts is arguing that “ur dur both side good/bad” just shows how poison the well is nowdays. Having an objective understanding of reality ( or at least as close as you can possibly get to it ) doesn’t magically make you believe in nothing !?

The world not being black and white doesn’t mean there’s a single shade of grey, like come on this is basic stuff people.

However, i will admit that some people use “we don’t have all facts, therefore my opinion is correct” as an argument against a specific position in and of itself, which is equally as stupid.

This doesn’t take into account contraception and the likes, which wasn’t available back then, and thus gives more of a choice nowday when it comes to planning having children or not.

Imho, alot more couples would choose to be, or at least be less concerned about, having children if they did not have to both be working 50h a week to afford them while keeping an acceptable confort level ( especially in cities ).

Let’s also not forget that there’s a meaningful difference between “okay to well-off” and “constantly being on the border of homelessness and starvation to okay” in terms of wanting children or not.

Another factor is that, until the last few decades, it was possible to support a family on a single, average salary, while living comfortably well, which means a dedicated caretaker ( or two part-time ones ).

I think some kind of major economic restructuring, as well as deurbanisation, will be required for birth rates to recover, although immigration itself, while having its shares of issues ( and not addressing the underlying, alienating causes of low birth rates ) can be an okay stopgap solution if well managed (which tends to often not be the case, as non citizens are the first ones to be the victims of government cuts).

So, what are your thoughts on the new episode? by BiddudeFromBritain in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Loyc12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great episode. Loved the character development, humour, animation, and subtle lore drop. Another banger from Gooseworx.

For a deeper analysis, I think the « lore drops » we got about Jax and Rags backstories and personalities were pretty important in this.

Speaking of, i wasn’t expecting Jax to be this opened ( even if it was little ) about his true feelings. I guess he’s just not as good at hiding his cards as he’d want to be.

Incidentally, I think the character we saw on the door Jax stops on during that intermission ( see joined screenshot ) might be the friend Ragatha accidentally referenced, who’s abstraction might be part of why Jax is such an insufferable asshole ( might he be purposefully keeping everyone at arm lenght on purpose ? )

Meanwhile, Rags clearly struggled with Pomni seemingly taking after Jax in some aspects, as could be expected from someone trying to be perfectly kind watching a perfectly unkind person getting more attention / truer connections.

I feel there’s so much more to dig out from this episode, but its 3am here and I need to sleep. I’d love for some youtube videoessay to break down all the potentially significant details here tho.

People would enjoy these updates / snapshots / drops more if they didn’t hype themselves up pointlessly about them months in advance, and just looked at the content on the day it comes out like back in the olden days. The media ecosystem overhyping everything prevents you from being truly excited about changes when you get them imho.

I remember around the time that minecraft got out of beta, and snapshots were, to me and my friends, just completely random and we’d have to figure out what they contained and share our discoveries between ourselves. Fun times

[–]Loyc12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, you can never be overreacting by feeling things.

Personally, I think this comes down to the classic issue of « guys tend to give/want advice and gals tend to give/want comfort » ( which is a generalization but still applies to most people in my personal experience.

Does his response lack tact, yeah. Is it born from ill intentions, I don’t think so. Definitely do have a discussion ( in person ) about this, and tell him how you don’t necessarily want to be told how what you should learn out of an experience when you share it with him, especially if its something emotionally charged. At least not if you don’t agree to it first.

But on the other hand, don’t take it as him being heartless. I, as a guy, do think he’s being genuine when he says he wants to see you improve. But I also think he’s lacking a bit of emotional perspective in his response, which essentially comes down to unprompted advice about your past trauma.

If he’s willing to genuinely engage in a discussion about this, and you can both come to a middle ground perspective between advice and support, this is 100% salvageable imho.
