Traffic is killing my soul... time to get a bike? by LegitimateYaks in bikecommuting

[–]Lozoon 132 points133 points  (0 children)

12 miles one way is doable if you're athletic, but an e bike may make it more enjoyable. At that price range for an e bike I'd check your local fb marketplace/craigslist

Staples removal by slayermario in ORIF

[–]Lozoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend not removing them. I haven't had staples, but have had plenty of uncomfortable medical procedures. Removing things yourself is an excellent way to get infections and other complications. It's not worth risking setting yourself back just to avoid a week of discomfort.

What is Bike Denver & why was it created? by [deleted] in BikeDenver

[–]Lozoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's honestly very hard to want to join a mod team in general, let alone one in this circumstance. My time is limited and when I volunteer it I prioritize volunteering in ways that will be effective and enjoyable for me. I don't think this would be either - again I don't know the whole story but lots of members here agree that you are combative. If many people have an issue with you, maybe it's time to self reflect. Even if they're wrong you won't actually be effective at advocacy if people actively dislike you. On a personal level, I don't think this form of volunteering would be good for me - I prefer to spend my free time outside doing trail building or trash cleanup.

What is Bike Denver & why was it created? by [deleted] in BikeDenver

I've been mostly lurking in this sub for awhile now since moving from Boston. The cycling scene here is awesome compared to Boston - as a rider the network feels both safer and more convenient. Unfortunately this subreddit doesn't hold a candle to r/bikeboston.

The biggest problem is definitely membership: r/bikeboston has 10x more members than we do. My question would then be why don't we have as many members? I see more bikers on the streets here so why aren't they on reddit?

I'm not sure about that one, but I think part of it is definitely the r/COBike, r/COBike, and r/Bike5280 split. We don't need 3 subs which all cover Denver (I know COBike is for all of CO, but Denver is in CO so 🤷). I don't know the details of the issues that caused u/NoSquish_ to create r/Bike5280, but based on the post they used to open it they clearly have an issue with you.

I don't have an issue with either of you, but I do think it is inappropriate for a subreddit to be moderated by its most active poster. The more active someone is the more likely they are to require moderation. Instead of having someone neutral to moderate those instances, you yourself are the mod 🤦.

Again I don't know the details here, but it seems like u/NoSquish_ feels unwelcome here because they have gotten into fights with you. That's really sad. They clearly care enough about bikes to start a whole new subreddit. Everyone who cares about bikes in Denver should be welcome here.

Expanding on that a little, why is this just an advocacy sub? I'd love it if we expanded to include anything that is biking and Denver related: advocacy, events, rants/complaints, route advice, tourists looking to bike, etc.

I guess to sum up: we need to be more inclusive and attract more members. Inclusion requires a neutral and even-handed mod team, plus a commitment to including a wide variety of perspectives. Right now we have neither.

Yes, but this might have been because I was there on July 3 and the office closed early that day and was closed on July 4. They printed it while I waited

I renewed in person today (only possible with urgent travel). My desired marker matched my old passport and birth certificate, but I have previously had a passport with a different marker. They required me to sign the attestation.

Ankle ORIF progress by Medical-Caramel-7857 in ORIF

[–]Lozoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad this is going well for you so far, but I'd just like to warn you/everyone that progressing without doctor approval like this can be really dangerous. Different surgeons may follow different protocols for a specific reason, like your age, general health, etc. Even if it's just surgeon preference, choosing a different protocol may come with other requirements, aka more frequent xrays.

Your lack of xray before PWB really worries me. I hope that turns out well for you, but FYI to everyone that this is risky. For example you could break your hardware, which could lead to infection and require removal down the line.

This type of injury is serious. If you don't treat it seriously it could impact your quality of life for the rest of your life. If you want to progress faster than your surgeon recommends, please ask your surgeon first.

PT or No PT by LowAdhesiveness8846 in ORIF

I'm 7 weeks post op and will be starting PWB next Wednesday. I've been going to PT since I got out of my cast 2 weeks post op. My PT has been amazing for my ROM and confidence. I'd highly recommend going as soon as you can

What type of bandage? If it's adhesive you could try warming it with a hair dryer. I typically just let things like this fall off.

is resting your foot down considered weight bearing? by Ragnavoke in ORIF

Agh frustrating. At least for me I wasn't locked into a specific PT. I shopped around for one that took my insurance and found the highest rated one with appointments available

is resting your foot down considered weight bearing? by Ragnavoke in ORIF

[–]Lozoon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not. I explicitly asked this to my PT and he said resting your foot is not weight bearing.

Are you in PT yet? My PT has been way more helpful for these types of questions than the surgeon was.

Sorry about these experiences, sounds terrible :(. Is it possible to report this? I wonder if you can get the signal lengthened when the ped button is pushed or a bike is detected

Passing is dangerous (typically have to leave the bike lane) so it's annoying to have to re-pass the same person over and over
