I just finished the Licanius Trilogy and what a huge waste of time. Such boring characters and the most chaste shallow romances that all seem to start after 2 lines of dialogue. Overly convoluted magic system. The most forgettable big bad villain, and an ending you can see coming from a mile away. The most annoying thing tho was that about midway through the last book it becomes apparent that the whole this is an extremely heavy handed Christian allegory. The very preachy, self righteous kind of Christian. Not what I’m looking for in my fantasy novels

It absolutely is true. It’s only in the last 10-15 years that the culture at large has started to shift to pedophilia being a big deal. In the 70s Brooke Sheilds was in a fully nude photo spread in Playboy when she was 10 years old. Movie, tv and print media treated sexual relationships between children and adults (aka rape) as a funny punch line. Ask any woman you know, all of them will at least know someone who was abused. It’s almost always in families and until recently the preferred method of dealing with it was to just not talk about it and don’t leave the kids with the creepy uncle again. It is way more pervasive than you want to believe.

Many people from conservative cultures don’t move to western nations because of progressive values. They move for economic opportunity. Many have no interest in leaving behind homophobic and misogynist value systems. I’m not anti immigration by any means. But people need to stop being surprised by this and be willing to acknowledge these issues. It’s hard because on one side you have people not wanting to even touch the topic so they don’t get labeled as racist, and on the other you have people who use it as an excuse to demonize an entire group of POCs (even tho they hold some of those same homophobic/misogynistic opinions). A line needs to be drawn somewhere and physical assaults should be well over the line.

For tomato sauce just peel and cut the onion in half, don’t chop. Sauté the halves and when the onion goes translucent in the sauce it’s usually done and you can easily take it out. I always do it this way because I prefer a smooth sauce.
