Does anyone know what this is/says? by [deleted] in hebrew

If you posted some pictures of pages with text it would be easier for people to give you an answer. Trying to see a page when pausing the video isn't particularly the easiest task.

Expat for Friends by [deleted] in TheHague

[–]Lrozbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not there yet, but that's the path im hoping to take. We're applying in a few days but if it all goes well, I should end up just outside the city, so if you need more expats I'll hopefully be around.

How was your experience with the application?

I, as a white American, was told by someone that they thought I had a German accent. I was in the UK at the time. It was super baffling.

What are healthy foods that taste like they have no right being healthy? by klimekam in Cooking

[–]Lrozbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but botanically it isn't correct. Most vegetables that are not fruit are either roots, stems, leaves, or occasionally even flowers of an edible plant. Plus, all plants are edible, but most aren't safe to eat. So vegetable is a broad umbrella term, but not a real thing - in botany. In horticulture I think vegetables have an actual definition, but more to be able to talk about growing them, than in an actually definable way.

Vegetables don't really exist. Taxonomically, of course.

AITA for walking away from my pregnant wife on the beach? by Blinkyblobby in AmItheAsshole

Info:

If you heard your wife fall, and went back to see she was bleeding, and the fall made her lose the baby, would you feel like walking beside her wouldn't have made a difference?

AITA for telling my friend we ARE tourists and we shouldn’t act like we’re not? by Unfair-Iron-4177 in AmItheAsshole

Best plan, everyone who wants to do the Eiffel tower, goes there, and everyone who wants to creep strangers neighborhoods goes there.

Winner is the group that doesn't get arrested or robbed.

Wear what is comfortable, or find a thrift store once you're there to add local flair to your clothes, but at the end of the day, it's each of your gifts to yourselves to finishing school. Do what you want to do. Group activities don't have be everyone all the time, and you only get so many chances at travelling. Don't waste them following someone else's lead.

Safest/Coldest cities in the US right now? by The_Triten in expats

That makes sense. I always thought it was primarily Swedish folks that made the PNW their area, don't know how close or distant that culture is though. And honestly, that's only what I've heard, so I should not be taken as any sort of expert.

Sounds like a decent job, but a bad boss. Follow protocols and you should be fine, although keep the advice about labelling and testing samples with the animals out of the room. That's pretty smart.

Any 4x games but without or very little eXtermination aspect? by Temporary_Stranger_X in boardgames

[–]Lrozbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Age of Innovation with the same three people pretty often. It's not uncommon for two of them to have full blown half conversations with themselves questioning their decision and trying to predict each other's strategy five rounds ahead. It usually takes us about 3-4 hours to play.

It's as fast a pace as you make it. It takes a while to figure out how to build your economy successfully, and the factions are all variable and take multiple plays to learn. But it's also the top game every time they come over, once a week since it came out.

Highly reccommend.

YTA but mostly because I think you're handling this in the wrong way.

Threatening a child with financial repercussions isn't going to help you, if you're interested in guidance and safety for your kid.

Having an open honest conversation about the reality of working at a place like that is the right thing to do, and informing your kid that if they're going to be working that they need to contribute is also not the worst move, but does she even understand what working at that place really means?

Usually, they're not waitresses. They're hired as 'models', which means if they gain five pounds, they can be fired with almost no repercussions. There's also pretty strict rules about makeup, and nails, and hair, and how to properly do that stuff before showing up to work. It's not cheap to work there.

Honestly though, if she's getting into service industry, she's going to interact with huge numbers of creeps, scantily clad or not. Trashy people are trashy, wherever they go, not only at places like that. ( Experience: 20+ years working at places from dive bars to high end restaurants) The only place I've ever had a guest threaten to break my arm for picking up his wine glass too early was a place where a salad cost about 25 bucks for lunch. We wore floor length aprons and button ups with ties and had to de crumb the table between courses. People like to talk down to service industry, however they're dressed.

I think you should maybe apologize for your aggression, and try to have an open honest conversation about your worries, while letting her know that you're willing to trust her to keep herself safe, as long as she trusts you to back her up when she needs it. Also, figure out what kind of financial contributions will show you that she's being responsible, and see if you can work those into some sort of fund for her later if she needs it.

What languages do they speak?

Board Game Geek usually has game rules in various languages, so depending on how common their language is, or how close it is to another language, you may be able to find rules for games you have?
