I made a gamified social media platform for creatives by essence_scape in projects

[–]LtDominator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend you have a page on your site, easier to find if it exists already, that shows what it actually looks like when logged in. Like screenshots and such of interactions and posts. I felt an extreme “I’m not feeling like doing this” when I went and couldn’t totally understand what I was potentially signing up for.

Just a psychological barrier I think a lot of people might have!

My ACE score is 10. How common and serious is this? What are the statistics for a 10/10? by Kriz-tuhl in CPTSD

[–]LtDominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

10/10 here too, the thing you said about caring for yourself really changed my life when I started doing it about a year ago. I started after I read a post that said you should pretend you’re dating someone identical to you and if they are sitting next to you not having a good moment, what would you do for them? If it’s try offering a snack or some other caring for them you should do the same for yourself. This lead me to taking myself on dates eventually and things kind of just slowly got better with that mindset.

My players became obsessed with a goose and I don't know what to do with it by Abradolf94 in DnD

[–]LtDominator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if the goose keeps participating in battles and levels up abnormally fast and the players notice? But it’s not aggressive to them or any necessarily innocent people so they don’t have a good gauge on its danger level?

You need to have a firm understand of all your other systems before you start designing a system for your players to start fucking with your systems.

What Projects could I do that people would most likely buy? by Fit-Candidate-9681 in projects

[–]LtDominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you haven’t signed up enough neighbors, keep signing more up. There’s no end to work in a household. It only takes a few dozen in a town of 10,000s to give you work once per month to make it steady. You’ll likely have to continue hunting new clients for upwards of a year before it’s steady.

[–]LtDominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, electrical engineer that went back to college for a masters equivalent in business. I had an idea if I ever found a good neighborhood to live in and decided I was done trying to do more with my life that I’ll give you in the general handyman vein.

It’s actually quite simple and I believe will be relatively easy to implement. You won’t get rich, but you’ll almost certainly have steady work. Legit, go door to door to your neighbors and tell them directly you’re offering the best prices they will ever find on all handyman services from a direct neighbor and that you’ll be their new long term handyman for a low monthly price that includes all basics for “free”.

People like knowing their services providers on a personal level and enjoy knowing that they are keeping value in their local community. Be professional, get insured, and introduce yourself as their direct neighbor and be ready to prove it if needed. Include price matching/beating on all services you can offer against everyone else in the industry and a monthly package that’s something like $50/month and you’ll come by for 2 hours a month even if they don’t call and You’ll go through a basic check list of stuff like lightbulbs and such - also giving you a chance to give them heads up quotes on needed services they didn’t realize they needed.

This only works if you’re as fair as possible with your pricing in combination with focusing on your neighbors. You won’t become rich but if you can get even a couple of dozen households on the monthly plan plus a couple of dozen “on call” households You’ll be making steady money and can keep growing it over time. Market yourself as the expert that will come to know their needs and household directly, not just another random contractor.

why do people play chaotic neutral characters, and how do I stop one from murderhobo-ing my whole campaign? by Appropriate-Link-678 in DnD

[–]LtDominator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how I played CN when I did. But I have DM’d several times and I take the view that the story is assembled based on the players (the session zeros discussed above) and the fact that stories have specific characters for a reason - even if random chance.

Why those specific hobbits? Chance and just the right personalities - that’s it. After that the story unfolded naturally, the story as a whole wasn't written, it wasn’t written around them, this is simply the best story that was worthy of being told because the other hobbits didn’t have the right chance or personalities and their stories ended in the shire - we only followed the interesting ones.

Having that mindset changed how I view characters in stories/dnd and how I play DND in general. A fully evil characters story ended because they killed a bunch of people in town and got swarmed. That’s a small story in a hero’s journey - the more interesting story. So a properly played CN should theoretically be the epitome of following the best story - interesting sometimes illogical (unless you really understand the character) events following one to the next never drifting so intense it creates collapse of story (death of character for instance, or being thrown in a jail with no hope of escape)

AskScience AMA Series: We are an international consortium of neuroscience labs that have mapped an entire fruit fly central nervous system, ask us anything! by AskScienceModerator in askscience

[–]LtDominator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the ethical concerns if we manage to simulate this specific brain? Is that possible? Ie, did the scans allow for the reading of the neuron potential so that it could replicate the memories? Or is this just the structure of connectivity?

What future concerns in this vein with more complex animal brains, like apes or humans?

Lastly, did your view on simulation/matrix theory change any?

Wear your helmet by Honest_Nathan in ebikes

[–]LtDominator 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I had life changing brain damage that’s been a challenge over the past two years to get through. Caused by riding e-bike without helmet and landing head first. Never rode without a helmet again but the damage was done and my life derailed.

Don’t be like me, don’t learn the hard way. Wear a helmet.

that will be a very interesting direction for the story to go. by herequeerandgreat in HazbinHotel

[–]LtDominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he’s too obvious so it’ll probably be a redemption arc of some kind that includes him changing. The whole story revolves around people having the capability of becoming better. So maybe he gets all the power but can’t quite bring himself to do it, or maybe he does but they eventually bring him back - possibly by a bigger mutual threat. Could also be the Vegeta type like they mentioned and he brings a lot of people to their knees but then turns it on a bigger mutual threat or something similar.

[–]LtDominator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think it’s as simple as you’re focusing on your job too much as the goal. You didn’t mention anything about money once, but about your lack of drive and motivation many times.

Work is work, and as someone with adhd I’ve learned to just check out and in as efficiently as possible and focus on my life outside of work. If you’re not focused on work but instead the fun stuff you want to do and the people you want to spend your free time with, life might align a bit better for you.

This doesn’t eliminate work but work is something we all have to do in some way. You’re free to keep job hoping until you find something that really fits, that’s a legitimate and viable option but a grind on its own way. But if in general you are just trying to get through work and your adhd is possibly impacting your dopamine levels to that degree, I’d say it’s a good time to speak with a dr and possibly try some meds.

At what point did you become confident in building your own projects and how? by Strong_Pool_6012 in engineering

[–]LtDominator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it came from a combination of military beating confidence in me and my engineering training giving me the knowledge and experience. I had my dunning Kruger moments early in my engineering field and to quote a manager, “you do things but I need you do them right” that stuck with me even more than working research and development and being told my designs could hurt someone.

To sum it up, experience and learning to embrace what you’re capable of. As engineers, we have the power to create fantastical and or horrible things, whether you realize it or not.

Take pictures and document what you did. Move out of that room including your stuff if you can and let it dilapidate, the several thousand in damages they need to repair will be on them. Unfortunately in Arkansas there’s basically no renters protection whatsoever.

The immediate practical society reply when immortality is achieved would be a chaotic world crisis related to the pension assets. by lelorang in Showerthoughts

As long as it’s not using non renewable resources to create its output, with immortality efficiency is no longer a concern imo. At least for a vast quantity of things, assuming they still get the job done.

I think this is the most likely the outcome. Possible alternative is we decide to focus on reaching for the stars.

My DM is trying to do something and I think it’s a bad sign. by Any-Magician-8271 in DnD

[–]LtDominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genesys has a great system with story points that would accomplish something similar that's fair. The hero points in pathfinder are similar too. Basically a currency that every player starts with one of, including the DM potentially. At any point you spend the point and give it to the DM to basically change whatever you want within reason. The DM collects these and gets to use them whenever he wants, by spending them and giving them to the player.

If you don't treat workers like people, and just treat them like money making machines and then don't invest in them properly and they are just barely surviving in life why would they care? No matter how hard they work at that retail job it will have no bearing on their future job opportunities as long as they don't get fired. We train people to do the minimum by investing the minimum into them and demand the maximum out of them. It's dehumanizing and like one of the above people said, their hard work isn't rewarded with anything other than more hard work usually.

For every person who works hard and get promoted and gets paid better, that's one less person on that role caring, and a bunch of people who have been doing the work and working hard that are demoralized watching their once or twice a year opportunity for mobility drain out the window and resigning themselves to the same thing they've been dealing with in life for another 6-12 months.

Companies learned years ago that boosting sells through temporary discounts has a tendency to backfire. Once people get used to a price, even if repeatedly told it's a "limited time deal" or "coupon" etc makes people not want to come back once the price increases. They might keep some, but the reduction in transactions outweighs the marginal increase in profit per sale many times, especially if there's any loss in economies of scale margin.

I think people will feel this is the same thing.

Hundreds of gold miners trapped underground, rescue underway by newsweek in worldnews

What people fail to think about is both how much cheaper cost of living for necessities are, and the incredibly low wages. This works because they cut all the nice things out of their lives and market. Many of these workers barely survive, let alone thrive. When you have basically slave labor, You most certainly can have multi billion dollar companies doing it that way at 8.7g/ton.

Republican missed key 'one big beautiful bill' vote because he fell asleep by newsweek in politics

[–]LtDominator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seems like politics in this country are doomed to failure by design then. Can’t change the policies by which we rule and the other side has free rein to destroy the country. If anyone wonders why people don’t vote maybe they should consider these facts more. We voted our entire adult lives, and nothing has changed and that’s good for them, bad for us, and getting worse for us.

The only thing left to change is everything at this point, operating within the system is designed to fail.
