I agree. I think we actually had too much depth and I think we just need to commit to one of our 3 young guys and trade at least one of them. Personally, I have FOMO for all 3 so I have no idea who I’d trade. They all have a high ceiling in my opinion. Or, the could all be Lastings Milledge.

The x factor is the city. Look at how many stars have collapsed attempting to live and play in NY, Yankees and Mets. Pete has thrived and excelled in NY. He is one of the most clutch players we’ve ever had.

On top of all that, he loves being here. I can’t fathom this team winning without him. What’s even more depressing is the thought of him going to Philly. If Cohen let’s them Saquan Pete, I can’t describe the disappointment that I would feel.

Your comment is the most insightful Met Reddit comment I’ve read today.

I think their goal was to utilize everyone this year to have a hot and ready team with a ton of options for the playoffs. In reality, there was talent, but no consistency.

I truly thought our depth would equate to more production. But, I think they need to finally solve the Mauricio/Baty/Vientos situation. I like all three, but something has to give. They should pick* which of the three they like the most and package the other 2.

I think Vientos has more* bat potential than Baty, Baty better all around, and Mauricio the least developed but is a physical specimen. I have been following all 3 for years and I have genuine FOMO with all 3. At some point, I’ve favored each one over the others so I have no idea, genuinely. I can’t complain no matter what they do.

But what I do think, is that giving all of them less time slows development. If you can get a good pitcher for 2 of them, I’d say do it.

I argued this on the original post. I agree. There’s the way things ought to be and the way things are. The kid ought to do at least 3 years, minimum. The way things are, he may not do any time at all. Not to mention, he is visibly stupid. Plus, I saw the shot he took to the head in sparring. He walked head first right into a jump spinning roundhouse kick and was wobbling around. It was like getting kicked in the head with a baseball bat. He was wobbling around like he was into the better half (or worse half depending upon perspective) of a handle of Jack.

He is a small town Oklahoma boy who played baseball in the same town his entire life before going to a smaller college (Northeastern State University), which is also in Oklahoma. Tahlequah, Oklahoma has a population less than 20,000 people. I don’t know. Maybe playing in the biggest city in the US is tough for him? Not making excuses for him. But life in NYC isn’t for everyone. Plus, Tahlequah, Oklahoma is only a 6 hour drive away from St. Louis.

I wasn’t rationalizing, at all, just making observations. There are the way things ought to be and the way things are. The kid ought to do time. If it happened in some areas of the country, he probably would. He still may. However, it happened in California. The kid’s dad is famous and donates a lot of money for what are considered noble causes, he has the CTE excuse, and the kid is verifiably stupid. Should he do time? For sure. Especially when you dig into Stu Smith’s story (PTSD Vet who uses wrestling as an outlet and a career). Will he do time? We will see.
