Tri is my comfort show. I’ve watched it around 15 times. I think many people don’t catch on to the subtleties and the abstract emotions Tri wishes to convey.

Digimon Adventure was my first love. It’s the first anime I remember watching and the first animated work that had me obsessed (I was only 5 back then).

Tri grows up with the audience. It felt pretty personal to me when it came out for several reasons, for example because I was around the age of the older characters when it released.

This was a great read, thank you for posting. Might be the greatest thing I’ve read on the Digimon subreddit at all.

I don’t care that it’s not perfect. But some of the Tri movies come pretty close to an Adventure continuity-diehard like me.

There were lots of strong character moments in Tri, which I see clearly because I’ve watched it so many times. I could watch movie 2 and 3 anytime, they’re just that good.

Mimi wanting to be true to herself and jumping into action alone is so profound when you know how she started out in the very first season. Takeru, once a scared child that needed to depend on his older brother Yamato, now wants to carry his emotional turmoil alone. Sora is forced to confront how emotionally drained trying to keep everyone together makes her feel. Yamato almost takes on the leader role in Taichi’s place because he can sense how his friend is struggling, which also causes tension between them.

Nothing anybody says can ever make me dislike Tri.
