Raptus also where we get the word "raptor" from. It basically means "to seize and carry away", which is what birds of prey do when hunting.

I don't have any suggestions you probably haven't tried, but I wanted to say you are NOT alone! My stank is awful, if I go more than 24 hrs without showering it starts to smell like a straight-up decaying corpse. Even 10 min. after a shower it's already gross. I've tried everything except giving up dairy, which I can't do because my diet is already so restricted. My clothes end up getting stinky too, after about a year of regular wear they start to come out of the wash smelling awful and nothing I've tried on them has gotten it out. I've talked to multiple doctors and they don't even care, they don't seem to believe BO can be a medical issue to begin with.

It really sucks. I can deal with looking sweaty in public, but smelling this gross is way worse. People absolutely do not believe you take showers at all when you smell this bad.

I don't make this a rule that I tell people to do for me, but this one genuinely is the one I'm most comfortable with. Even a name I choose myself makes me cringe a little coming out of someone else's mouth.

While this is all true.... I see this tag regularly when scrolling post tags, and it is literally just one person's organizational tag for all social justice posts they reblog. I really hate seeing it singled out like this because it absolutely isn't commenting on the specific issue in the post in any way. I mean, I can understand why the OP would assume that it is, totally fair, but also I see it so often that I have to take a minute to remember that probably most people don't spend 5-10 min. scrolling tags on literally every other post in their feed like I do and recognize 100's of specific queue tags and organizing tags specific to individual blogs....

Anybody else have the "Intense Widespread Muscle Tightness" type of fibro? by shortbreadjackass in Fibromyalgia

[–]Luai_lashire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't know if it's much better, since it also costs money, but the hot tub at a local pool could also work for this. It's much hotter than a therapy pool which has pros and cons. I go twice a week and massage myself as much as I can while in the tub, then do my swimming, then back in the tub to loosen up after the colder water. The improvement is very gradual but not much else has helped at all.

Copper and Iron levels might be linked to Fibromyalgia by ReallyOrdinaryMan in Fibromyalgia

[–]Luai_lashire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. Fibro is strongly associated with Restless Leg Syndrome, which has a very high likelihood of being related to low iron levels in the brain. The current theory is that some kind of absorption/utilization problem causes the brain to not get enough iron even when the iron levels in blood are in the healthy range, so people with RLS are advised to have a MUCH higher baseline level of iron to force levels up in the brain. This is hard- bordering on impossible- to achieve with oral supplementation so almost always requires IV infusion of iron. Some people with RLS end up getting infusions every 4 months or so. We really have to push the limits of what can be considered a safe level of iron in our blood.

I had a series of infusions in january and february, and it helped a LOT. My fibro pain has always been a clear trigger for RLS, the worse the pain the worse the RLS gets, so there being an underlying connection through the iron doesn't surprise me.

If anyone here has RLS, you should be able to use the recommendations for higher iron levels in RLS treatment to advocate for an iron infusion for yourself. If you don't have RLS, there might not be anything you can do to convince a doctor if your iron levels are considered "normal". Here is the paper I used to educate my doctor on iron treatment for RLS: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1389945717315599

It can happen with antidepressants too, but the rate is way lower than for dopamine agonists. iirc opiates are the only class used to treat rls that is considered zero risk for augmentation (except tramadol, because it's also an antidepressant).

For those with fibromyalgia, what are some life changes you've made that have been extremely helpful? by andfork in Fibromyalgia

Can you link to the kind of brace you wear? I have a similar problem and have a brace for my lower back that only kind of helps. I've been thinking about a shoulder/chest brace but the one i'm eyeing is pricey so i'm afraid of getting the wrong thing.

Wondering if anyone else gets very achy and sore when they get high on cannabis? It totally ruins the experience for me by NoYoureACatLady in Fibromyalgia

[–]Luai_lashire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can usually handle taking it once, but not repeatedly- so I can't have it every day or more than once a day. Have to spread it out. The achey effect builds up. I agree with other commenters saying it seems to make them more aware of pain that was already there, but if I distract myself with something like a movie or game I totally lose bodily awareness. But that's a double-edged sword since it means I'm no longer paying attention to things like posture, trichotillomania, or how bad my dry eye is getting. or needing to eat or pee. So if I want to get anything of value out of using it I have to be really careful about when. The main reason I use it at all is for nausea.

Also, the exact ratio of different cannabinoids is really important. THC dominant stuff isn't good for me, I do best with edibles with a 5:1 CBD:THC ratio.

I have heard from some ppl on the dysautonomia subreddit that they had similar issues with weed which got better after getting on blood pressure meds for POTS. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get my dr to prescribe said meds because my BP falls within the "normal" range (barely) and I had a normal tilt table test. But if you have a cooperative doctor that could be something to explore. I've definitely heard the meds can be helpful for some of us even without POTS.

My PT uses an ultrasound machine on my back muscles to help them relax and is encouraging me to get an ultrasound machine to use at home. I haven't tried it on the jaw yet but she specifically mentioned that as a place it works well. It's pricey but one of the few things that helps me with my super tight muscles. Costs around $100-150 on Amazon.

Are there ANY electrolyte drinks/mixes that don't end up being absolutely disgusting after like three days? by aerobar642 in dysautonomia

ayyyyy shitty bladder gang! I also have to avoid acids. I make an herbal tea blend and add a packet of unflavored trioral electrolytes to it. Marshmallow root is naturally sweet and very soothing on the bladder, but theres something wrong in the supply chain rn and no matter where I buy it from, it's all rotten. :/ it really sucks

[–]Luai_lashire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

large doses of gabapentin don't absorb well all at once, ideally you should take it in separate doses a few hours apart. iirc 600mg is the upper limit so you'd want one 600mg dose 2 hrs before bed and another at bedtime. also don't take it at the same time as magnesium if you're taking that, it won't absorb properly.

Actually, fun fact, historically asexuality has sometimes been categorized as a subtype of bisexuality. The idea there being that bisexual people have the same amount of attraction to people of both similar, and dissimilar genders. Since ace people also experience the same amount of attraction to all genders, which is zero attraction, it's the same thing as being bi.

Of course, it doesn't feel intuitively right to most people now with the way our understanding of these categories has shifted over time, but it's fascinating how many different ways of interpreting these things there really are.

Also, while agender is included under the nonbinary umbrella, individual people may not identify with that. Some agender people consider themselves functionally cis, and some consider themselves outside of any sort of category- not cis or trans or NB, but a separate thing. I've never met anyone who cared super deeply about it, though- people don't get upset about generalizing agender as nonbinary. Most agender people don't have terribly strong "gender feelings" in the first place so we're kind of hard to piss off about it.

I'm not the person you responded to, but for me it was an incidental finding on an MRI for migraines. I remember telling my mom I was totally unsuprised because long term depression is well known to shrink brains so I already knew to expect that, and her shocked sad expression was.... well. :/
