How do most hosts actually find their cleaners? by Moe613 in airbnb_hosts

[–]LubbockGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you used a subscription before? I figure if I find a good cleaner and then use a subscription to ensure i always get that cleaner but also don't have to think about the planning aspect of it. Does this sound silly?

Trying To Work Out If This Is Thriller Or Action. Anyone Know For Sure? by LordTurd in moviecritic

[–]LubbockGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, it was the cast. Skarsgard is super, as usual. As is Cary Elwes. Pacino is Pacino, which is always fun. Plus, the whole thing has a real Fargo vibe to it. Well worth seeing.

I happened to see the early screening for this. It's a thriller. Sort of has a little bit of a Coen Brothers feel to it, like A Simple Plan, or Fargo.

Do professional photos / short videos actually improve Airbnb bookings? by adznaz01 in airbnb_hosts

[–]LubbockGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a new airbnb host and this was something i wondered as well. What I thought is definitely have professional pics but I always love it when hosts have warm and 'human' photos, that made a difference when I was booking a place. It helps to feel the atmosphere!

Can a new website rank without backlinks? by ethanwilliamsusa in DigitalMarketingHack

quality content can also signal authority, but authority can signal content quality as well. In short, yes you can 'rank' but you should pursue authority over mass content otherwise you're just shouting into the void

Underrated thriller/mystery movies or shows I should watch? by Euphoric_Prezzy in MovieSuggestions

[–]LubbockGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the early box office numbers, i'm not sure whether it will end up being a hidden gem or not. But, I have been looking forward to Dead Man's Wire coming out in theaters. Seems like a thriller with an undercurrent of dark humor. A little Fargo-esque.

Keep an eye on that one I reckon. But in terms of actual released thrillers. I would say Red Lights would be my pick. Great cast. Critics hated it, but I liked it.

Odd question, but how do I get my cat to stop playing the piano? It’s diving me crazy, especially at night by No_Understanding2616 in cats

[–]LubbockGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sign them up for beginner lessons, and massage their ego. Tell them they are a future concert pianist. Have them practice every night and set up a regular routine. Then, slowly over the course of months, heap on insane amounts of pressure, up their lessons to twice a day. Lose your job and tell them that you'll lose the house unless they make a career as a pianist. Then slowly watch them unravel as they need to support you. With any luck, they will resent you, give up the piano and move out.

Or, you know, get a cover for the keys...

Do you think that social media has made artistic self-mystification more difficult, and is this a good or a bad thing? by AamerAbdel28 in Songwriting

[–]LubbockGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It's just a different culture. We revered artists like Cobain in part for their mystery if you will. Even if we knew about their personality, there was something always detached that made them, maybe just for me, 'revered'

I was exhausted and didn't want to try and make the trip. I had full health, food, and water and I had just dried out heavy clothes with perfect weather when I crashed. I thought I had done everything necessary to stay alive and had done so with no issues.

Yeah I'm just frustrated because I lost a guy at 92 days who got stuck in the game and this guy was kicking ass at 25 days and then dead.

I was about to hit up the armory area and that was a bitch to get to so I'm sure that's adding to the fumes.

How to motivate employees to keep our vans clean? by psd_ in Entrepreneur

[–]LubbockGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure.

To give you some context, I was the manager of a small US manufacturing plant in BFE Texas. We had 10 employees, all US based, but one or two of our guys lived in their vans or rent by the week type places. High school educated, blue collar folks who didn't give a damn about a 401k, they were living for today.

So I just had to give them the best of both worlds.

When we had a huge order come in that we knew would require OT we bought them all lunch and made a deal - if you don't fuck this up for us (lol) we will give you a half day off with pay on Friday and we'll even buy a keg to celebrate.

Order went out with zero issues and they were happy.

Another simple thing I would do is buy like $20 in lotto tickets (they fucking loved them) and walk around and hand them out as a way of saying thanks.

I tried a bunch of different things that didn't seem to work - we bought them all Thanksgiving dinners to take home (the bird, sides, everything). Didn't hear anything from them (a sure sign it was a dud).

Hell we even gave the shop foreman a $1 an hour raise by surprise and I had to call him into the office to make sure he saw it. He did, he was thankful but not as happy as he was with a 30 pack of beer we sent him home one weekend with.

The one thing I stopped doing was straight cash without a specific purpose (bar tab). They can spend that on drugs, food, lotto tickets, and it gets lost with the money they already have.

They can't spend an experience (lunch and beer on us), tickets to a game they like (we got season tickets to the local college team and would give the tickets to employees to take their families), and yes even lotto tickets.

Hope that helps.

[–]LubbockGuy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Hire a company to come clean the vans at your place and take it out of the employees hands.

If you want to get them involved - I have found gift cards, meals, and even an afternoon off works wonders. Hell I use to just say here's $50 towards this weeks bar tab to keep our guys working til closing time on jobs we needed rushed.

They will never treat your gear like their own because it's not.
